The Primary Science Fair is run alongside the secondary school Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2013 in the RDS every January and is a great opportunity for the pupils to display their work and be inspired by the innovative and exciting work of their peers.

The RDS Primary Science Fair provides a public forum for primary schools across Ireland to showcase their class STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects, receive feedback from experts in the field and learn from viewing other projects at a major exhibition, the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.

You can check out the blog post that one of the pupils wrote about their project on our school website by clicking HERE.

Throughout the day we explored the different stands and projects at the exhibition and here are just two of the items that I thought I would share with you.

  • image Kinect2Scratch – This software allows you write software and games for the MS Kinect with Scratch. It was developed by Stephen Howell, a computing lecturer with Institiute of Technology Tallaght [ITT] is available from at http://scratch.saorog.com.

  • Microbe Magic Primary School Programme – is the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre [APC] primary school programme. The APC is a research institute that investigates how intestinal bacteria affects health and disease. They provide an excellent website at http://microbemagic.ucc.ie with games, quizes and experiments to do and any questions will be answered online by the APC scientist. APC scientists also offer school visits.
