Digital Learning Day 2017

Last Thursday, February 23rd was Digital Learning day. Started in 2012 Digital Learning Day is an annual celebration that provides educators an opportunity to collaborate with peers and share ideas, try out new digital tools and celebrate education innovation. The purpose of this day is to bring awareness of the power of technology when it comes to student learning.

The digital revolution has provided unparalleled access to information, and empowered people
re-imagine learning and teaching in new and different ways. Digital Learning Day celebrates the use of digital technology in learning and in particular highlights innovative and forward-thinking uses of technology for learning in the classroom.

Why celebrate Digital Learning Day?

With so many new types of digital devices, educational software and mobile apps continuously developed, it’s hard to keep up with the latest and greatest advancements in educational technology. In many classrooms, educators are doing some pretty amazing things with technology. Organized by the Alliance for Excellent Education Digital Learning Day was started as a way to actively spread innovative practices and has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders, and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes.

This year thousands of educators and students demonstrated how technology can improve student learning as part of the sixth annual  Digital Learning Day . They collaborated on projects, engaged with each other and their devices all within the walls of their classrooms.

Each year, schools, and classrooms across the United States and around the world hold thousands of events to celebrate Digital Learning Day. If you missed out on the DLDay action, fear not, Twitter was ablaze with photos and videos of students in action. Check out  @OfficialDLDay Twitter feed to get a glimpse of DLDay highlights. The Digital Learning Day website includes links to digital tools, resources, lesson ideas, videos and also has an archive of every Digital Learning Day since 2012.
