The Drumcondra Interactive Whiteboards also known as Cláir Bhána Idirgníomhacha website http://www.cbiproject.net should be the first port of call for Irish teachers and schools researching for purchasing information or classroom resources for use on an interactive whiteboard. The website was setup in 2006 to support three primary, three post-primary schools, a special education school and a Gaelscoil who began to investigate the effectiveness of using an interactive whiteboard in the Irish classroom from 2004 – 2007. The project expanded when six more schools joined in Phase 2. Two teachers with the support of their principals and boards of managements from each of the schools took part in the project. During the course of the evaluation a number of different makes of interactive whiteboard were evaluated – Smart, Promethean, Cambridge-Hitachi, Interwrite, Polyvision, Mimio and 3M/E-Beam. During CPD courses teachers involved in the project created resources for the Irish classroom and these are organized and shared on the site classified by the software that was used in their creation – Smart, Promethean, Easiteach, E-beam, Cambridge-Hitachi etc. Teachers who have created resources of their own are encouraged to share them on the site – motto is “Ní neart go cur le chéile” The pilot project was evaluated by Dr. Miriam Judge (DCU) and her evaluation and links to other interactive whiteboards research from Ireland and abroad can also be sourced on the website.
