TECH WEEK_2021 is up and running (April 17th – 23rd) and in a year like no other for everyone, organisers are acutely aware of the challenges school’s have faced in covering the curriculum so Tech Week is a bit more low-key this time around.
TECH WEEK is coordinated by the Irish Computer Society and is nationwide series of events, showcasing and celebrating Ireland’s application on technology. It provides a platform for students to learn, share ideas and create connections to enhance our future world. The intention behind it is as simple as fostering the growth of technology and providing primary and secondary students with opportunities for experiential engagement that will help develop their interest in technology, advance creativity and innovation while also letting them have a lot of fun in the process! Other events of note this week are the finals of two national schools competitions which are happening virtually. First up is the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge final, taking place online on Tuesday 20th April 2021. Following last November’s Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge the top 10% of participants have been invited to take part, in the Bebras National Final. A full list of qualified students is available here. The following day will see the National Scratch Competition Final take place online. Despite school closures and lockdowns, 215 projects were entered in the competition, These have been whittled down now to 34 finalists and these projects have been invited to the National Final.
