Initially and still to some extent, the major question around Generative AI (Gen AI) is: “can you show me how to use a specific AI tool?” However, as the initial euphoria of how Gen AI can generate lesson plans and personalised learning resources has settled (somewhat!), it is important to look at Gen AI and reflect on why and how we use it.
This is where Experience AI comes in. Experience AI is a fully funded educational programme. It is designed to teach young people not just how to use these tools, but how to think critically about them. Crucially, while this course covers some practical AI applications, the core focus is understanding how AI works so that students can become responsible and informed users.
Experience AI unpacks the building blocks: the data AI models are trained on, the patterns they learn to recognise, and the biases that can be built into the data used to train the models. Experience AI equips young people to ask the right questions: Who built this? What data trained it? Who benefits, and who might be left behind?
A major revelation for me from the Experience AI training was realising how heavily we rely on anthropomorphism (using human-attributed words) when discussing AI. When we use words like “listens”, “thinks”, or “remembers”, we are inadvertently attributing human characteristics to a computer! I believe it is very important to emphasise that AI is not human and the purposeful use of language can support this!
The Experience AI training will equip you with lesson plans, slide decks, worksheets, and videos, everything you need to support your learners! This course is best suited to educators working with young people aged 11 and older.
Experience AI has been made possible in Ireland through Kinia’s partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, with funding from Google.org. The programme is co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, and aims to support educators in an increasingly AI-driven world, helping them to inform and inspire the next generation.
As one of Ireland’s leading organisations in creative and digital learning, Kinia is committed to helping schools and youth organisations navigate emerging technologies with confidence. Through programmes like Experience AI, Kinia supports educators to build not only digital skills, but also critical thinking and ethical awareness around technology.
You can read even more about the programme and book a fully funded session on the Kinia website.
