Copilot’s Teach – Your New Classroom Assistant

The new Teach section in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams EDU isn’t just another shiny GenAI tool, it’s a practical, dedicated teacher space packed with powerful features for creating classroom materials like lesson plans, rubrics, and study aids, all in one place.

Teach brings a growing toolkit of AI-powered features that let you

  • Adjust content by reading level, curriculum standards, language, and more.
  • Generate study aids like flashcards and fill-in-the-blank exercises.
  • Align materials to relevant curriculum standards and personalise learning activities.

And the best part? It’s free for all faculty/staff with the basic (A1) M365 for Education licence.

Teach offers a centralised, secure, and intuitive way to bring AI into everyday teaching and as mentioned above you can use it right now for:

  • Lesson Planning: Build standards-aligned lessons in minutes using your own OneDrive content and curriculum frameworks.
  • Assessment Creation: Generate editable rubrics and quizzes tailored to your students.
  • Study Support: Students can use the companion Study and Learn module to create personalised flashcards and quizzes from their notes.

Microsoft also plans to roll out LMS integrations (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard) and expand features like differentiated instruction, reading level adjustment, and real-world example generation.

So where do I start, well If you’ve a regular reader of the TeachNet blog, you’ll know I’ve previously lauded Heather Aird’s excellent Quick Guides, initially in 2023 with a follow-up 12 months back, and just in time, here’s the latest one to help you get started with Teach…

As previously mooted, the Microsoft Education team deserve a proper shout out for their focus on building smart, practical tools that genuinely support both teachers and students and their prolific output speaks for itself. The Microsoft SM20 stand at BETT is always my first port of call to catch up on their latest releases and innovations for education.

This new Teach module shows that Microsoft EDU isn’t slowing down. There’s real joined-up thinking behind it, and I’ll be keeping a close eye out to see what else they’ve got in the pipeline!
