In April 2012 a new website was launched called Studyclix.ie. The site was built by a Luke Saunders, a Secondary School teacher in Sligo. The website is aimed at second level students and teachers and is free of charge. Studyclix.ie breaks up the main Junior and Leaving Cert. subjects into curricular topics which links to all past exam questions with marking schemes attached. Another useful feature of the site is the list of learning resources available when revising a unit of work. Resources use a wide variety of media such as videos, animations, webpages and powerpoints. These can be accessed easily and are all relevant to the curriculum. The website although still in its infancy is causing quite a stir in staff rooms countrywide.
A key aim of the website is to make exams easier for students doing and for teachers teaching. An added feature of the website and one that is of great value is the Exam Builder. Once logged into the site this function enables you to make exams in relation to specific topics using specific exam questions from previous Leaving and Junior Certificate exams. This can be used to create end of year exams or simple chapter tests ensuring relevant exam questions are linked with theory taught. It brings an end to the days of copying and gluing together past papers. The overall plan is that the site will become an active community where teachers can easily share teaching resources with each other that are relevant to the Irish secondary curriculum. One of the bonuses of the site is that it will always be completely free for teachers and students will always have free access to resources added by teachers. In summary, Studyclix is an online learning community which will grow through teachers and students adding videos and posting to the forum.
