Love this lesson and how it links maths, imagination, motor skills and spatial awareness. There is also potential to surprise them with some of the animals on our planet. For example the weird things that live in the ocean. One of my favourites is the Costasiella sea slug which looks like it could be a pokemon! The universe is full of marvels, and the planet with silicate rain is a great example. It’s called HD 189733b and is an exoplanet (a planet that orbits a star that isnt our sun). It’s so hot that tiny particles of glass form in its atmosphere and get driven sideways by winds reaching thousands of kilometres an hour!Hello Joe,

Thanks for sharing your activity, there’s lots of scope for the children to lead their own investigation into flooding. There is a project called the 5*S (Space, Surveyors & Students) by Maynooth university which is about using satellite data to solve problems. Great lesson outline for learning about the moon. The moon does look flat up in the sky so its important to learn that is in fact a sphere!
No matter where you are in the world, we see the same face of the moon as it is tidally locked to us. It could also be a fun exercise to show them the far side of the moon too: https://science.nasa.gov/moon/facts/

Thanks for sharing your lesson. There is alot to be done with the moon across the curricular! Our technology has come a long way and we have lots of high resolution photos of the surfaces of the moon and other planets now!
