Thanks for sharing your lesson plan with us. Its a good idea to link it into other 3d shapes. You could ask the children why they think the earth and planets are spheres? Heres a nice resources from NASA explaining how gravity shapes the planets https://spaceplace.nasa.gov/planets-round/en/

Thanks for sharing your activity, i love the discussion between the animals and the flip to show everyone is still stuck on to the planet! This is also a good model to teach about day and night in different parts of the planet. You can simplify the idea down though for your age group to the planets closer to the sun go fast and have smaller orbits around the sun, and the planets further away have larger orbits and slowly move around the sun.Hi Niamh,
Wonderful lesson. An excellent way to incorporate art further is to let the children do multiple outlines of many objects on an A3 paper throughout the day and then colour in those shapes, to make an abstract piece of art for their wall!Hi Juliette,

At present we estimate there are roughly 10^ 22 to 10^ 24 stars in the observable universe. Which means there might be around 10,000 stars to every grain of sand on Earth!

Nice job on the lesson plan, Great practical tip too about the shoebox for the crater activity, that’s exactly the kind of detail that saves someone else’s lesson !
One nice fact when discussing the Man in the Moon patterns is different cultures see different shapes in those dark patches, a rabbit in several Asian traditions, a toad in some Mesoamerican stories, a face in Western folklore etc. it could be a lovely tie-in with the language and integration work you’re already planning, letting children look at the pattern and decide what shape they see themselves.Hi Orla,

Fab lesson plan. You can also introduce a bit of colour science into the lesson when working inside. This is because the moon surface has very little atmosphere (only trace gases known as an exosphere: https://science.nasa.gov/moon/lunar-atmosphere/) and so the footprints remain undisturbed for very long periods. Love the space fact you have there and the activity. Fab that you can link it to somewhere nearby and have a set of space helmets too! Astronaut gloves are heavily pressurised making grasping objects quite difficult on space walks: https://news.mit.edu/2010/astronaut-gloves-1013 You could demonstrate something similar by getting the kids to wear multiple gloves and try to perform a task requiring some dexterity.Hi Sarah, Thanks for sharing the Story bots resource!
