My apologies for the above post. Here it is again:
I am looking at “The use of ICT for learning.”
The example I am using is based on the pupils doing a project about different countries around the world. At the end of their preparation, the pupils will be teaching each other about their country though a presentation using Slides. Each pupil will have their own chrome book to work on so there will be some collaborating happening also.
6 groups will each have a different country and each pupils in a group would have a different topic to work on eg famous landmarks, physical features, culture etc. They would research their topic using Kids National Geographic, Britannica, websites on tourism from the country they are doing. I would ask the pupils to embed at least one video they make themselves and one audio piece also. After presenting them to the class, each presentation will be available on a shared drive. As a follow on, each group would create a quiz using Forms to assess the others about their country.
I found this module very interesting. It’s great to know about these 21st Century skills as I will use them as a guideline to how I prepare for teaching ICT in the classroom!
My quiz created using forms is based on nouns. It’s a test that gives the pupils an opportunity to revise what is a noun by choosing the correct words. It’s geared towards a 3rd/4th class but I could use it in 5th/6th by varying the questions between a common noun and a proper noun. I think forms is an excellent way for assessing how well pupils have learnt different aspects across the curriculum.
I feel the pupils themselves could create assessments/quizzes in Forms for each other where assessment by their peers can be a good way of learning as they have to figure out what are the important questions to ask to get the answers.
Forms will be a very useful tool that I will use throughout the coming year. Although creating the assessments at first will take time, it’s a great opportunity to build up a file so they can be used again. Plus, creating a quiz will get easier the more you use it.

I think these workplace tools can be used in so many ways throughout the school. We didn’t use Google Classroom during the remote teaching but since then I have introduced it into the senior side of the school. We are gradually getting on board with everything available on Google Workplace. The fact that our senior pupils will have a chromebook each this coming year, I found this course allowed me a chance to see how these tools work and how to go about incorporating them into our school day and at home too.
Google Classroom has a lot to offer. Hindsight is great as I can see now, how we would have benefited greatly if we had it up and running before our teaching at home periods.
In the classroom I can see google docs, forms and slides being used in many ways. Slides has so much to offer that as well as using it myself, I will be getting the pupils to use it for projects, incorporating audio’s, video’s and embedding urls into their presentation. But my aim here is for the pupils to prepare presentations that the others in the class will learn the information from. I look forward to introdusing forms to the class, as I’m picturing for example, all the colourful bar charts/pie charts etc that will come from our maths lessons. Google docs can be used in many ways. The fact that the pupils and myself can collaborate on a document together, editing, adding etc has great possibilities.
In the last 2 years we’ve had assemblies online using zoom. We may not be able to assemble again as the space is very tight, so I can see Google Meet playing it’s part here. It will be one less app/website to have to sign into. We already have a Google Calendar up and running so scheduled meetings can be put into that, keeping everything in one place. I feel that’s the biggest advantage Google Workspace has to offer. Everything is under the one roof, so to speak. It will also make life a little easier for some who are still trying to get to grips with IT.
I have really enjoyed this course this year and I feel ready to take on the Google Workspace tools this coming year.

Here is my quiz created in Forms. It’s a simple revision quiz on nouns which would suit 4th/5th class.
Apologies….sent this in wrong place
Hi Bernie. Thanks for sharing your quiz. I liked how you kept one question per page……….I’ll remember that the next time I create one.
August 17, 2022 at 11:48 pm in reply to: Module 2 – Introduction to Google Workspace & Classroom #155156I agree with the statement that “Google Classroom can be used as an effective tool for a flipped classroom approach.” I can see a lot of advantages to using Google Classroom this year, both at home and in class and most especially as I have a split senior class. The advantages in this scenario would be when I want to work with one class, the other class can work on researching a history/geography project (in an individual or collaborative way), a touch typing course, the “spellings for me” tests/assignments, a writing assignment, a maths test, early finisher etc. Another advantage is the pupils will be working at their own pace and this can take a lot of pressure off SEN pupils.
It will be very useful for uploading audio or video’s of material covered in class so the pupils can see/hear them again when they go home eg frasaí nua, dán, leitheoireacht as Gaeilge or some new maths covered that day. It’s a good way to ask the pupils to record themselves reading too as it’s not always possible to hear everyone read everyday.
As I’m only starting to use Google Classroom this year, there will be a lot of preparation of assignments, videos etc but the positive side to this is you will be building a bank of material you can use again, or share it with other teachers if you change class.
August 17, 2022 at 2:36 pm in reply to: Module 1 – Digital Learning and School Self Evaluation #142982My apologies for the 1st piece sent. I tried to Paste as Plain Text but it still came out as above. So I am rewriting it here:

I am coming to this course from an IT administrator and 5th/6th class teacher’s point of view. We are extremely lucky to have purchased enough Chromebooks for the pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th class, starting this Spetember. Up to now the whole school were sharing iPads so this is a big change for us all.
The Teacher’s Centre looks amazing and I look forward to delving into it and sharing resource idea’s with the other teachers. Today I’ve chosen the “Be Internet Awesome” resource. I feel it’s important to start off with some lessons on internet safety, moreso this year as they have individual Chromebooks. I will go through the curriculum section and chose relevant lessons and have the pupils sign the pledge when the lessons are completed. I like the way it has a interactive section where the pupils can assess the information they have just learnt. There is also a parents section where they can see what their child is learning.
I hope to enhance the pupils digital experience by using different apps/skills/resources from the Teacher’s Centre throughout the year.
