A digital portfolio using Google Slides would be an excellent way of recording highlights of the school year particularly for rang a sé. The objectives of the portfolio may be set by the pupils to include images, video clips and text on events throughout the school year. It would be particularly poignant at assembly times to communicate and showcase with other class groupings.

Contributions and extensions could be made by  the children also. Also a personalized Google Slides portfolio could be completed by each individual to record and present their school year. Children would really value this activity as it would be a keep sake for them.

Google has a really central role in the classroom that can contribute to a rich learning experience digitally.

Google Docs are an absolutely fantastic tool for group planning in schools. It allows all teaching within the class grouping to compose plans across the entire curriculum including long term plans, short term plans and cuntas miosúil. In terms of planning its always evolving so teachers require a tool whereby they can work collaboratively and continuously to update their plans. After engaging with Using Google Workspace in the Classroom I wish to include more digital opportunities into my teaching. Thus, I need to update both my short term and long term plans in collaboration with my colleagues prior to returning to school in September. Gooogle Docs allow me to achieve all of the above and that is why Google Docs is such an important tool.

Learners and parents always require feedback. Providing feedback gives the children confidence and direction to assist them with their learning. Google Forums supports the children by allowing multidirectional   avenues of communication. It can be teacher led or an ” open ” forum will allow children to post messages also

Collaboration would be a key key skill within the framework of using My Map. The children would have to decide on what features to include in their map. Also the children would have to work together to ensure that all relevant data is included. A forum could take place after each presentation using the two stars and a wish methodology.

My Maps is an excellent approach for the children to create their own maps about a specific topic. The children may great a map using My Maps to shown the distance that they travel to and from school. My Maps would really aid the children in completing an activity such as this. My Maps could “layer” the activity based on further objectives within the lesson. If we wished to map environmentally friendly infrastructure with the school locality. For example a green way, a bicycle shelter, recycling area, wild flowers etc then this topic that started as a mathematical  and geographical lesson could then be interwoven in the The Green School Programme. The advantages of Google platforms with the classroom allows for easy “Add on ” to be included to add value to the learning outcomes.

A flipped classroom approach is such a clever idea and can really engage pupils in a guided discovery manner. Vocabulary and literacy development is at the core of all lesson. A flipped classroom approach can allow the children to connect with the chosen vocabulary prior to the lesson and therefore allow children to acquire a higher order of objectives. Chrome books are a super tool to allow a flipped classroom approach. As I am teaching 5th and 6th class this year the flipped classroom approach would really foster independent learning.

Building literacy competence and confidence for all learner in the classroom is one of my core objectives as a main stream class teacher. Helperbird can provide all student with a build in aid to assist them with their literacy skills. When student with EAL challenges Helperbird provides children with the necessary assistance to help them along their literacy continuum. It gives learners an independent tool to help them with their literacy skills. Once a phonological platform is put in place children can go on to become independent learners for life. This software can be accessed at both school and at home so children can have full accessibility with the use of chrome books.

Chrome books provide an excellent opportunity for children to digitally engage with the curriculum. With the ever increasing demands of our modern digital world Chromebooks provided an excellent platform for children to start their digital journey.

Chrome books allow children to access video clip, audio clips and research topics of interest to the learner or to engage further with topics selected by the teacher. This is so beneficial as children can watch or listen to new information quickly and in a child led manner.

Google slides allow children to present their work in a digital manner. Children can collaborate with each other in groups to create presentations. Children have the ability to access an abundance of information in a child led manner. This year I hope carry out a range of projects across the SESE curriculum in my 6th class. Children can work digitally and showcase their project work on  varies topics. For example I could set a topic about Asia countries and with the aid of google maps and google slides children can work collaborative to produce work on five different counties. Presenting their work on Google slides would allow others to learn about varies countries,

Google forums allow for continued assessment to be used in the classroom. Google forums enables teachers to carry out frequent assessment quite easily. Continuous assessment is vital to ensure all students are being monitors. What I really like about Google Forums is that data from assessment can be shown in graphs. This allows teachers to monitor and reflect upon the children’s learning experience.  Chrome books really motivated the children to engage with all tasks across the curriculum. Typical, I have used Chrome Books in English writing and research activities but now I wish to extend my use of chrome books across all areas of the curriculum.  Then of course there are many ways to present the children work using google.

Once the children become more capable on their chrome books particularly in the seniors classes, other features from the Teacher’s Centre can be introduced to the children to broaden their knowledge of the array of features available.

Google maps is a brilliant application to bring the outside world into the classroom. Children find the concept of understanding the local, regional, country, European and world location difficult to understand. Locating places across the curriculum can be taught through Google Maps. I hope to use more of this application this year.

Google quizzes assist all leaners  when assessing your class. Multiple choice answers creates a scaffold for weaker learners thus providing all learners with an appropriate methodology during assessment.

Google Meet is wonderful tool to connect with parents, children and other stake holders within the school community. I found Google Meet an excellent platform to connect with parents over the school year. We used Google Meet in our confirmation programme. We connected to a live stream and it allowed. This created an authentic learning experience for the confirmation candidates.

Google slides creates real-life visuals. It allows teachers to create colorful and exciting presentations especially in history, geography and science.
