Hi Clodagh, welcome to the course and thank you for engaging in Module 1!
It is fantastic to get an SET perspective on this topic and your focus on how development education supports social and emotional development alongside academic learning is spot on.
Using digital technologies to research cultures and create presentations is an excellent way to blend global themes with digital literacy skills as well as employing the UDL. Your collaborative ideas for Earth Day or Fairtrade Fortnight are brilliant whole-school hooks for colleagues. Finally, your alignment of global citizenship with SSE targets like pupil voice and wellbeing is a perfect roadmap for long-term school improvement and align with the enactment of the new PCF.
Hi Mel, welcome to the course and thank you for engaging with Module 1.
This is a powerful and timely reflection. You have highlighted our vital role as teachers in challenging prejudice and fostering equality in the classroom.
Your practical ideas for integrating migration, colonisation and diverse stories across geography, history and languages are excellent for keeping these global issues authentic. Using current case studies alongside debates and role-plays is a fantastic way to develop deep critical thinking and empathy in our pupils.
This brilliant classroom work could really tie into SSE.
Hi Ciara, welcome to the course and thank you for engaging with Module 1!
This is a very uplifting response. You have captured how Development Education empowers children to become critical thinkers whose decisions can have a real global impact. This also links closely to our new PCF and the concept of being an Active Citizen.
Your cross-curricular approach to weaving these themes naturally into English, SESE and SPHE is fantastic for keeping the learning authentic.
I think the practical idea of a dedicated staff noticeboard to share resources, is a great, low-pressure way to get colleagues on board. To build on this excellent idea and in keeping with sustainability, could a digital version of this resource hub be created? It would also support sustainability in teacher workload, once saved on a social bookmarking platform such as Padlet or Wakelet lets say, it is there for future reference!
Hi Mark, thank you for your engagement in Module 1.
You have truly captured Ehigie’s focus on empowering pupils to turn empathy and critical thinking into positive real-world action. Your plan to use inquiry-based learning across geography, SPHE and science is an excellent way to help children discover those local-to-global connections for themselves. Don’t forget these also time seamlessly into our PLC.
I especially like your emphasis on whole-school collaboration and embedding these themes directly into school policies and annual plans to ensure sustainability.
Hi Colette! Thanks for your engagement in Module 1.
This is a well thought out and comprehensive response. Your point that global citizenship is about developing deep empathy and responsibility rather than just learning facts about other countries is spot on and makes it relevant for learning opportunities. Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into project-based learning across geography, SPHE and English is a fantastic way to keep these themes authentic. The Concern Debates often centre around these and are a fantastic way to open the floor to students to understand them more. Thank you.
Hi Johnathan, thank you for engaging in Module 1 of this course.
This is a highly reflective post. I particularly like your framing of Development Education as a mindset rather than an extra subject to shoehorn into a busy day.
Asking questions like “whose voice is missing” is a fantastic way to develop authentic critical thinking in your classroom. Your collaborative approach to getting colleagues on board through a shared digital resource bank and a cross-curricular Global Goals week is excellent for low-pressure staff engagement.
Hi Laura, welcome to the course and thank you for engaging with Module 1.
I couldn’t agree more with your reply and critique. You have highlighted the core value of development education, which is moving children towards critical thinking and a deeper acknowledgment of the wider world.
Integrating these global themes directly into daily lessons keeps the learning authentic.
Your suggestions for whole-school initiatives are brilliant for building a shared school culture and the idea of creating shared resource packs will definitely help organise and motivate other staff members. Linking this to an initial SSE audit is the perfect way to ensure your school improvement actions are strategic and impactful.
July 7, 2026 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #256499Hi Patrick, thank you for engaging with Module 2 and for this post. Having so many local resources is wonderful, but I agree with so much local potential, the workload of structuring plans for rivers, boglands, and historical sites is understandably daunting. Your plan to use AI tools to organise this data into age-appropriate lessons and field trips is a fantastic approach.
This approach highlights how GenAI can act as a collaborative planning partner, taking the heavy lifting out of curriculum design. This is a brilliant way to build a sustainable, localised SESE plan for your school!
July 7, 2026 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Module 4 – Using Prebuilt Gems to Support Teaching, Learning and Assessment #256490Hi Nicola,
Thank you for your engagement with Module 4 and for your reflection.
This is a wonderful example of using a prebuilt Gem effectively. Targeting a third class geography lesson on community is a great curriculum context and using it for the limited task of brainstorming hooks like the “Village Detective” idea works perfectly.
Keeping your prompt general without specific location details or student names shows an excellent understanding of data safeguarding boundaries and aligns with AI Guidance. Moving away from total reliance on the textbook to focus on active geography skills really adds value to the learner experience.July 7, 2026 at 10:15 pm in reply to: Module 5 – SSE, Assessment for Learning and Feedback using Google Workspace #256485Hi Carol,
This is a brilliant focus for SSE. Evaluating learner experiences in Gaeilge is incredibly worthwhile, especially your emphasis on moving from rote repetition to genuine communication.
Using Google Forms to capture student voice via a scale system is a highly effective assessment approach. Gathering this kind of digital evidence makes the process highly manageable and sharing this methodology with your colleagues is a wonderful idea to promote collaborative practice.
July 6, 2026 at 10:17 pm in reply to: Module 4 – Using Prebuilt Agents to Support Teaching and Learning #255857Hi Mark thanks for sharing this critical and honest reflection. It is really helpful to see your insights on testing the Canva agent for a 6th Class school magazine.
I couldn’t agree more with your emphasis on professional oversight is an essential boundary, especially when managing school branding like the crest. While the agent provides a useful baseline for templates, your experience proves that human finesse remains vital for quality control and accurate customisation.
In terms of School Self-Evaluation (SSE), trialling these tools allows schools to critically review their digital learning technologies, ensuring that any adopted AI platforms genuinely enhance teacher efficiency, align with The Guidance on AI in Schools (2025) and the overall learner experience rather than adding extra complications.
July 6, 2026 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Module 2 – Designing Learning with Teach, Create and Teams #255849Hi Mark and many thanks for your engagement with Module 2!
Thanks for sharing this fantastic reflection, it is great to see how well Copilot Teach worked for your 6th Class lesson and the poster sounds like a brilliant visual resource.
Your insights on prompting are spot on; guiding the AI to your standards makes all the difference. It is also a good catch regarding adjustments for the Irish context, like changing the UK “Year 7” terminology. This just highlights how essential the human is in these AI interactions.
Using Copilot Teach is a brilliant example of how AI can support School Self-Evaluation (SSE) by helping teachers efficiently plan, differentiate resources and enhance overall learner experiences.
Hi Marian, thank you for engaging in Module 4 and for sharing this reflection.
Aiming to become an official “School of Sanctuary” is an incredible initiative that beautifully turns empathy into real, structured action. The idea of peer-led welcome committees and language cafés is a fantastic way to get students involved.
Your approach to SSE is absolutely spot on too; using focus groups and surveys to look at school ethos and learner experiences is a great, practical way to track true active citizenship.
Hi Sarah,
Thank you for your engagement with Module 4 and for sharing this thoughtful reflection. It is wonderful to see you highlight the invaluable work of Migrant Rights Centre Ireland and others in supporting families as they settle in.
Your focus on immediate inclusion through clear routines, visual supports and circle time is highly practical and effective for building empathy in an age-appropriate way. Linking these efforts to the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process under inclusion and well-being is excellent. It provides a meaningful way for schools to review their practices and ensure that diversity is actively celebrated within the school community.
Hi Deborah, thank you for engaging in Module 4 and for this highly practical reflection. Acknowledging the vital work of the Irish Red Cross and the Irish Refugee Council grounds this topic perfectly in the Irish context.
Your ideas, including a classroom buddy system and celebrating diversity through art, music and language, are wonderful ways to foster an inclusive environment. Connecting these initiatives to the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process is fantastic. Setting specific targets around intercultural awareness, pupil well-being and inclusion provides a clear roadmap for creating a genuinely welcoming school culture. Fantastic!
