I have been using Kahoot in my own classroom for a few years. I really like the fact that you can design your own quizzes and store them based on a topic. This can take a little bit of time initially but as with all resources once they’re re useable they are definitely worth the time and effort.
Kahoot can also be used for peer to peer learning in both AFL and AOL by asking students to design quizess for other groups in the class based on what they already know before learning about a topic as well as a numer of quizzes after words when they have completed their learning.
After having completed this course, I hope to use AI applications to create differentiated and engaging materials that will enhance my teaching and the learning of my students.
Tools like Microsoft Reading Coach and Immersive Reader by Microsoft seem extremely beneficial for the development of literacy skills in struggling readers in particular.
To teach the children digital literacy skills and coding in the classroom, I hope to use applications such as Osmo, Scratch and RoboGarden.
I’d also use Chat GPT to teach students about the responsible and ethical use of AI, highlighting the importance of looking for bias in the information they find and educating them on the importance of verifying facts as it is vital to develop critical-thinking alongside the use of AI.Module 5 also demonstrated the benefits of the use of AI for assisting in SSE across schools going forward in data-analysis and reporting, personalised learning insights, and streamlining assessments and feedback.
AI can massively enhance teaching, learning and assessment by creating age-appropriate, engaging resources quickly and easily, allowing teachers to focus on the children’s learning and assessments.Lesson Plan: The History of World War II
Class Level: Fifth Class
Subject: History
Topic: World War II
Resources:
PowerPoint presentation (created with Gamma AI)
Whiteboard and markers
Printed handouts of an authentic-style diary entry from a soldier in World War II created by Chat GPT (optional additional resources of having different nationality soldiers for different perspectives)
Learning Objectives:
Analyse the diary entry to identify the experiences and challenges faced by soldiers during WWII
Evaluate the diary entry as a primary source, considering its reliability and perspectives.
Write a short response letter back to the soldier as a family member or loved one.
Lesson Outline
1. Introduction Activity: Class Discussion to find previous-related knowledge on WWII
2. PowerPoint Presentation: World War II generated by Gamma app.
3. Paired work: Read printed handouts of diary entry from soldiers and answer Q’s like “Where might they be from?” “How do you think he’s feeling?” Report back to the class in their pairs.
4. Write a short response letter back to the soldier as a family member or loved one.
5. Wrap-Up & Reflection
Class Reflection Questions:
“What does this diary entry tell us?”
“What does it not reveal?”
Assessment: Through class discussion, questioning and written response.
I have to agree with many in this group – Kahoot is an excellent resource. I have used this with classes regularly over the years. I find it very useful for assessment through quizzes at the end of a topic. I am sure that other AI tools are also very good. I am looking forward to trying Quizziz and Twinkl Ari AI going forward, too.
Those sound like great suggestions for using Scratch, Darren. Scratch on the i-pads would be brilliant to introduce! I also like the idea of Coding Cards for small group work. Very clever suggestion to use Magic School AI for some ideas of activities for the Scratch Junior app, too.
As part of this module, I explored Khan Academy Kids and was truly impressed by the extensive range of resources it provides. Khan Academy allows teachers to assign lessons and track student progress. Its many playful activities, books, and videos sound can enhance teaching and learning and seems to be one of the more popular applications in this module.
It has literacy, numeracy and social emotional learning activities and that they are tailored to the individual child by analysing their responses. It can help foster children’s social and emotional growth. In today’s educational landscape, where wellbeing is a key focus, tools like this are extremely valuable.
In the coming academic year, I would like to try use Khan Academy for homework tasks, allowing students to progress at their own pace and challenge themselves at their own level. The built-in tracking tools means I can monitor progress and find misconceptions or gaps in the student’s knowledge.August 20, 2025 at 9:44 pm in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #243153This module provided lots more examples of how AI can really improve the quality of teaching and learning, if used correctly. Module 2 gave some great examples of how AI can be used to enhance differentiation in the classroom, helping with the ever-growing demand on teachers with such diverse needs in large classes.
Immersive Reader by Microsoft is such a simple tool that I had never known about and could be extremely helpful for students with Dyslexia who may struggle with reading. It would allow develop comprehension skills without the pupil being frustrated and using all their focus on decoding instead of interpreting a text.
Mathia X sounds very helpful in figuring out areas of weakness in children’s maths skills. It can also be used to help pupils to master new concepts. Century also sounds like a helpful tool in finding weakness or any missing knowledge and misconceptions. I will definitely try these applications going forward!August 20, 2025 at 9:43 pm in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #243152Absolutely! It’s so important for education to be relevant and enjoyable for the pupils and Minecraft Education Edition would certainly spark children’s attention and interest!
I agree with Brid and many of the other participants in my experience of Chat GPT. It is very useful in generating ideas for lessons or texts but would generally need some sort of editing. Like others said, it’s a great resource to get the ball rolling!
‘The potential classroom use of AI tools and how this can impact on future teaching, learning and assessment.’
There are many positive benefits of AI on teaching and it can really enhance children’s learning experiences. I have only started this course and can already see that AI provides a fast and effective way for teachers to acquire information and deliver it in a way children will find engaging and exciting.
I have used Chat GPT to create reading comprehensions in the past but other than that, I haven’t really used AI for resources and wish to learn a lot more about the resources available to teachers. The quiz app Yippity seems very useful as an assessment resource. I can see how this would be very useful in assessing topics in SESE, etc. Khan Academy sounds like a fantastic resource to assign work to pupils and have them assessed. It allows for differentiation to suit their learning needs and ability and helps go through the problems to further develop the student’s understanding.
