Lesson Plan with support of chat GPT. Based on literacy for senior class. Focusing on story writing.
Exploring Stories with AI
Objective:
Students will understand the elements of storytelling and create their own short story using AI tools.
LessonIntroduction to Storytelling
Talk and discussion about what makes a good story (characters, setting, plot, conflict, resolution).
– Read a short story as a class and identify these elements.Reflect on what ai tools we could use and discuss what’s important when using them, eg. Prompt, selection of information, refining results etc.
Group Activity
– Divide students into small groups.
– Each group will choose characters and a setting for their story.
– Encourage them to discuss and write down their ideas.Create a Story Using AI
Each group will use an AI story generator to help them write their short story. Conclusion
Groups will present their stories to the class.
Discuss what they learned about storytelling and using AI in the creative process.AI Tools: the students could use tools like ChatGPT, Ari in twinkl, Gemini or gamma to help them with their stories. They could also use tools like Microsoft reading coach to help them with their presentation and delivery of their story if time allowed.
I agree the kahoot timer can sometimes put children off and they can frustrated by this style of quiz. I think the likes of the quizzes made with quiziz would suit the children I work with more. It also gives them a chance to think and review their learning before answering. I also think it’s very beneficial that it can just been shown to the children and that they don’t need have an iPad to take part.
I think I would try and introduce Osmo to pupils. It looks like it can be both exciting and engaging for the children. With the support of chat gpt and Gemini I would possibly introduce it to my class using the following steps. I think this would foster interest and allow the children to experience osmo for themselves.
First I would begin with a short, fun video that showcases Osmo in action, highlighting its interactive games and learning experiences.
Briefly explain to the kids what Osmo is and how it works and how it can help us in class to learn.
Then I would possibly do a demonstration where students can see Osmo in action. Showing a few different games that may relate to English or maths.
Then get the students to try out Osmo themselves. Get them into small groups and let them try different activities.
I would then give the children an opportunity to share what they liked and how they could use it to help them with their learning.
I really enjoy reading the weekly plan. It’s great that AI can compose a plan like that, that would often take me a long time to con up with. I think using AI in this way will definitely help speed up the planning process but also help with new creative idea that motivate and encourage the children. Social and emotional topics often require a lot of time in September, I think the content would also benefit 1st and 2nd class.
I definitely will use the translation tool for EAL support. It seems like a brilliant resource to keep the children engaged especially when English can be very limited when the children join our school. I agree it’s very inclusive for all and it’s a platform that the children are already very familiar with and enjoy.
2 examples of AI tools I could use to Improve my own learning process teaching learning and assessment are co- pilot for image generation and reading coach for literacy support.
I think co pilot would be a great resource to support English lessons. Maybe reading a text and asking the child to illustrate what they have read and compare it to what AI makes. Also to show the children the importance of the prompt and the detail required. I think it would also be good from covering procedural writing or advertising. Getting the children to compare their work to the work of the AI generated image or advertisement. It would also help me with teaching various lessons by having an AI generated image as a talking/starting point for a new topic.
I think reading coach would also be very beneficial in the classroom. It would allow the children to be heard reading aloud everyday. With our current program we only hear reading every second day so this would be a great tool. It’s targeted for each child and it would definitely help with assessment as it gives the children a opportunity to work on mispronunciation of words and then includes these words in future stories. I think the children would also really enjoy this tool as they can create their own story and decide what will happen next.August 7, 2025 at 11:21 am in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #238416I think AI can transform the teaching and learning experience in my classroom by allowing me to have more time with the children. I think from using resources such as Microsoft forms to create lessons tests and complete grading it will allow for one to one time assisting the children who need it most. I think a lot of time is spent on planning and preparation and administration tasks and this time can definitely be reduced with the help of AI.
Although I have come across immersive reader I haven’t really used it to the best of its ability. I believe this would be a fantastic resource to use in the classroom with struggling readers. I can think of a particular child in my class who would greatly benefit from the black out section where you can only see one line at a time. I think during iPad time it would be beneficial to have all children access immersive reader and then have some of the children focus on it more during reading time and even for homework. I think it would also help the parent support their child’s reading at home. A challenge that I might face in implementing AI tools is just generally having the time to really familiarise myself with the benefits and potential that the tools have.
August 5, 2025 at 7:54 pm in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #238007I like the idea of being able to print out feedback from the surveys, it sounds like a very useful and worthwhile way to ask the opinions of the children and the parents. I find its sometimes very hard to get feedback from parents unless it is through a digital platform and then it can be hard to actually assess. I will definitely look into using this google forms for this.
I agree that it would be a great tool to motivate some children. I find a lot of the children I support have been focusing on the same topics for a long time but still struggle with them. With the addition of AI I can envisage using more creative and interactive ways to cover these topics. I never really thought about using AI for games and ideas, so this is something I will also do going forward. I agree the image generation is fantastic and I think the children would also really enjoy having a role in this too.
AI can be used in the classroom in many different ways. It can help with differentiation so each child is receiving support and content that is at their level. It will also help teachers to understand where the pupil is and particular strategies than may be useful to support their learning.
It can also help support the teacher to continue to develop their own teaching strategies and methods. It will also continue to be updated which means it’s very much relevant and staying on top of new developments and information.
I think it will continue to help learning as it is fun and interactive for students and can make learning fun while focusing on their particular interests. It gives quick feedback and can help with levels of engagement. It’s very much a personalised responsive and student centred resource that will benefit many students in their education.
