Similar to your school we are lucky to have access to a lot of technology but dont always use it well. My intention is to begin a digital portfolio this year with my students in 4th and share it with my collegues in 5th and 6th with the hope that we will all be using the available technology (chromebooks) effectively and with purpose. Again I need to use google forms more for feedback as it is a really quick, fun and interactive way to gather information from the children,

Having been inspired by a post from module 1 I would like focus on :Pupils enjoying their learning, being motivated to learn, and expect to achieve. I would do this by helping them set up a digital portfoio. Using Gemini suggestions I would help them create a slides presentation with headings:about me, thoughts about school (as others have suggested) Eng , math, Gaeilge, projects etc. I would use google forms to help gather feedback (Pupil Surveys: Assess student attitudes toward learning, self-assessment, and digital skills before and after introducing portfolios.) from the students and use slides to put it all together. Children would gather there best work for each subject and photograph and upload the image to slides under each heading. I would also get them to add a voice note/comment to tell us why they choose their piece. During family days the children would be able to open their digital portfolio and share it with parents/guardians. Once up and running I would be able to share best practice with colleagues using another domain of SSE: demonstrating collective practice.

I don’t have gems working but would ask the Brainstorm Gem to help me with a practical ways to teach fraction to fourth class. I would be sure to make as specific a prompt as possible: Using the new primary maths curriculum help me plan a practical activity for fourth class students. The children would need to revise simple fractions before moving on. Make the activities for mixed ability students and use paired work where possible.

The suggested activities were very useful: The main activity was this hands-on task, pairs construct physical fraction strips to discover equivalent fractions through folding, measuring, and matching.
This was an excellent idea because it paired the students while making the activity active which in my class would be very useful especially as a lot of the children need movement to help them.

I did change/adapt one activity Build & Prove “Each pair gets a set of fraction strips or cubes/counters. Call out a target simple fraction -Partner a build it while partner b records it. I felt this activity would not work as well in my classroom due to time constraint, it just wouldn’t be practical to swap around and repeat the activity in one lesson.

I kept the prompt broad and included “mixed ability” in the prompt to help with differentiation.

Gems can definitely help in the classroom but like most ai tools it needs to be edited and checked before output to students.

I dont have access to gems either but I am going to try to figure out how to access it through our admin permissions in work. As far as using it I would be comfortable having a go myself but I see it as a more advanced tool that I definitely need to practice on before encouraging other staff to do so.
I like how you have adapted th instructions to suit your own class as I see this as one of the more powerful ways to use Ai.

I can see myself trying voice to text next year as it looks like a very useful tool. We also use forms as part of staff SSE and I used it myself during school safer internet day to help gather some information about the habits and uses of technology in 4th class.

For this module I continued on from module 1 and created a differentiated google slide based on ancient greece which i would use to assess the pupils at the end of the lesson. I really liked the template on school life in the past and used this as a guide. I used gemini to generate an image and imported it to slides.I think I would add a section called quiz questions, I like to challenge the children to come up with 3 questions they would ask other pupils to show they have understood the topic area. I can definitely see myself using the google form more as this is a great way to assess the children. I can see how all of this gcan be integrated across the google suite and am already more confident I will make more use of its features next school year.

Also is gemini on docs and slides through a paid service for school accounts?  I can only seem to access gemini through classroom or through the app but not built into docs/slides like in the video.

I really like the idea of portfolios we are very lucky in that we have access to chromebooks and are using classroom but I would love to know how to organise and get started with portfolios from 4th to 6th class.

                      4th class Norway project
I would begin with a shared document on google docs(children have access to chromebooks) where children imput answers to KWL before beginning the project.
This would be linked to self evaluation where we revisit the document at the completion of the project.

I would assign the children a task of creating a docs/slides fact file for Norway using google classroom.Within the post I would include success criteria and possible a rubric from Gemini( i havent tried this before.) I would attach a template for them from google docs/slides and assign a new one to each student.) I would also attach a link/links to the post on google classroom to relevant websites like national geographic kids. Using classroom helps keep it consistent and is ill help the children with their success criteria.

We do a lot of writing workshop in our school and  i really like this idea. The fact that you start the writing process with paired work and a fun activity like sell me this rubbish would really appeal to my students. I could also see the benefit of peer learning – the less confident students would be able to hear what good persuasive language sounds like before they put any written work down. I also like the idea of the vote which again is engaging and a fun way to get them to listen to each other.

This was my first time using Gemini and I was very impressed with it. I asked it to generate a lesson based on ancienct greece. Having used other AI interfaces it was easy to create a prompt and adapt the lesson. It suggested three parts: beginning with a warm up game, main activity and exit ticket which I liked. The activities all involved a lot of teacher involvement and resources so this is something I would adapt; I would specify children have access to chromebooks and make it more student led. The boundary I use would be not to be specific about any one child but rather use general prompts like; make the language/wording appropriate for children with EAL.
What I really liked about the adapted prompt for EAL is it gave me easy to follow steps with a visual drag and drop activity which would be done in google slides on the chromebook. This would really help EAL students and would be something that peers could help with.
