This is a really lovely lesson Maria and one I think your class would really enjoy. You have used some of the AI tools I would like to try myself this year too!

This course has shown me that there are many benefits to using AI in the classroom, specifically how it can assist with personalised learning for pupils. I think that tools like Gemini, Copilot and Chat GPTgpt could be useful in helping to create differentiated lessons for pupils.. They would also be useful for coming up with creative lesson plans to suit the interests of the pupils in your class. One of the applications I found really interesting in this course was the Copilot Image creator. I liked the way you could use it for your descriptive writing lessons and as I will have 3rd class this year I feel it would be a good class to use it with. I also liked the Reading Coach. I feel it is very important to listen to the pupils reading as much as we can and it is something in our school that we prioritise especially in the younger classes. However, finding the time to listen to everyone each day is challenging so reading coach could be used to help teachers see how their class are doing with their reading. For myself, I am eager to try out gemini and diffit to assist with my own planning and teaching.

I agree Mary. Microsoft reading coach looks like a really good AI tool to try with the pupils and like you say it would be a valuable addition rather than a replacement. Anything that can assist us with what we are already doing to encourage reading is a positive and welcome addition.

I think I would like to try out ‘Teachable machine’ with my 3rd class this coming year. It looks like a fun way to teach them about machine learning and AI and one that I could also get the hang of as it doesn’t use any coding. I like how it is broken into three steps; train, gather and export. We could use it to take photos of the children using different body positions and create our very own dance. As I have thought this class before, I know that this is something they would really enjoy! We could begin with a whole class dance and once everyone was familiar with it we could divide into groups to create more dances. As the class and myself enjoy music, we could also try out using the percussion instruments to create a piece and test if the machine can recognise each instrument afterwards. It will definitely mean some more practice on my part along with of course looking at out IT and GDPR policies but I think it could be a really lovely one for 3rd class.

I agree Anne Marie, Copilot is a great resource to use for creative writing and like you say a more engaging way for the pupils than using their workbooks.

One of the applications I found interesting in this module was the Copilot Image creator. I liked the way you could use it for your descriptive writing lessons. It would really get the children thinking, using what they know about adjectives and descriptive writing but in a really engaging way. It could be used as a whole class activity but also in groups or pairs and be used for different subjects across the curriculum too. It has so many great tools within the app such as the option for pupils to decide what happens next in the story giving them more control over what they are reading. I would definitely like to try out both of these applications this coming year with my 3rd class.

This module has shown me that there are many benefits to using AI in the classroom, specifically how it can assist with personalised learning for pupils. One of the areas I find difficult to find the time for these days is differentiation. With so many learning styles and needs in our classrooms today anything which can assist with this is a welcome addition. I think that tools like Gemini, Copilot and Chat gpt could be useful here. They would also be useful for coming up with creative lesson plans to suit the interests of the pupils in your class. I try to learn about the pupils interests at the beginning of the year and incorporate these topics into some lessons throughout the year. AI could be a great tool to assist with this. Minecraft Education would certainly be one that would get pupils interested in learning as it is a very popular game with so many pupils. After watching the China video, I can see how GDPR and privacy must be adhered to if we are using AI in our classrooms.

I agree. That video was not a nice watch. Parents being able to see the whole class scores is surely a breech of GDPR. AI gone too far. Also the parents don’t seem to be too informed of where the data is going or how it is being used.

I agree with you David. It can be an effective tool for planning as well as assessment. And like you say for differentation when you have mixed level class or mixed abilites, it could be so helpful here.

Before beginning this course, I was a little afraid of AI and what it could do but I also felt it would be important for myself and my students to become more knowledgeable in this area going forward. After completing the first module, I already can see the potential uses of AI in helping me to become more efficient, productive and creative in the classroom going forward. I had heard of some of the applications such as Chatgpt and Gemini but hadn’t tried any of them. I think one area that it could be useful for is for planning and making current lessons more interesting while also increasing my use of IT in the classroom. I also can see where it could be used as an assessment tool, giving immediate feedback. With varying needs and learning styles in our classrooms, it could also be used to personalise learning for pupils. Used correctly and ethically, AI can certainly be of benefit to us as teachers.
