great idea here and i think the children would find this very engaging. I will implement this in my own classroom

I would choose the Balloon Rocket activity for my Senior Infants class as I think it would be a fun and engaging way to introduce children to the idea of forces and movement. At this age, children are naturally curious and love opportunities where they can explore, test ideas and see results for themselves. I like the ESERO inquiry approach because it encourages children to become little scientists by asking questions and investigating their own ideas. I would begin by creating a “space mission” in the classroom where the children become astronauts preparing a rocket launch. We would discuss what they think makes a rocket move and allow them to make predictions before testing. In small groups, the children would create balloon rockets and experiment with different designs to see which one travels furthest. To extend the activity, the children could design their own planets and create a space station using construction materials. I think this activity would work really well in Senior Infants as it combines Science with creativity, communication and teamwork while allowing children to learn through hands-on experiences.

A really comprehensive lesson plan. really well though tout and im sure all the kids would really enjoy this and learn a lot
I would focus on the Hands-on Classroom Themed Activities as I feel they are very suitable for a Senior Infants classroom. At this age, children are naturally curious and learn best when they are given opportunities to explore and discover things for themselves. I would use a space-themed activity where the children investigate how rockets move by creating their own balloon rockets.
I would begin by asking the children what they know about rockets and how they think they are able to move. The children would make predictions before testing their rockets and then discuss what they observed. This would encourage them to develop their questioning skills and use scientific language to explain their ideas. To extend the learning, the children could work in groups to design and build their own rockets using recyclable materials. They could also create a class space station through play and role play activities. I think this type of learning works very well in Senior Infants as it combines Science with creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. It allows children to learn through doing and helps develop a genuine curiosity about the world around them.

That is a really insightful lesson plan. I think the great part of that lesson is facilitating the natural curiousty of children around a really interesting subject matter of aliens. well done
I would use the Space and Aliens activity set with my Senior Infants class as I think it would be a great way to tap into their imagination while also developing their scientific thinking. At this age, children are naturally curious and often have lots of questions about space, planets and whether life could exist somewhere else in the universe. I think this activity would provide a great opportunity for them to explore these ideas in a fun and creative way.
I would begin the lesson by showing the children pictures of different planets and asking them to imagine that they have discovered a new planet. We would discuss what the planet might be like, for example, whether it is hot, cold, dark or covered in water. The children would then think about what type of alien could survive in that environment and what special features it might need.
The main activity would involve the children designing and creating their own alien. They could use a variety of materials such as cardboard, paper, recycled materials and art supplies. As they create their aliens, I would encourage them to explain their choices and think about why their alien has certain features. For example, they might decide their alien has extra legs to move across a rocky planet or large ears to hear sounds in space.
To extend the learning, the children could work in groups to create a new planet for their aliens using construction materials. They could decide what their planet looks like, what resources are available and what their aliens need to survive there. The children could then present their creations to the class and explain their ideas.
I think this activity would work particularly well in Senior Infants because it combines Science, creativity, communication and teamwork. It allows children to explore scientific concepts while using their imagination and developing their ability to explain and share their thinking. I feel that activities like this make learning more memorable because the children are actively involved in creating and discovering rather than just listening.

I would choose the Sun and Shadows activity as I think it would really capture the interest of a Senior Infants class. Young children are naturally curious about their shadows and I think using something they see every day is a great way to introduce scientific thinking.
I would begin the lesson by bringing the class outside on a sunny day and asking the children to stand still and look at their shadows. I would ask questions such as, “Can you make your shadow bigger?”, “What happens if you move closer to the wall?” and “Do you think your shadow will stay in the same place all day?” This would encourage the children to think and make predictions before carrying out the investigation.
Working in pairs, the children could draw around each other’s shadows using chalk. We would then return outside later in the day to compare the new shadow with the original outline. The children would quickly notice that the shadow has changed position and shape. Back in the classroom, we would discuss why this happened and talk about how the movement of the Sun causes our shadows to change throughout the day.
To finish the lesson, the children could draw a picture of themselves and their shadow and explain, in their own words, what they discovered. I think this activity would work particularly well in Senior Infants because it is active, hands-on and encourages the children to investigate for themselves rather than simply being told the answer. It also creates plenty of opportunities for discussion, prediction and observation, which are all important parts of developing scientific skills at this age.

I would use an inquiry-based activity in Senior Infants through a “Which material is best for keeping Teddy dry? investigation. I would begin by showing the children a teddy and explaining that he is going outside but we need to find something that will keep him dry. I would show them a range of materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, tinfoil and fabric and ask them what they think will happen when we put water on each material. I would encourage the children to make predictions and explain why they think a particular material will work best. We would then test each material by putting a small amount of water on it and observing what happens. The children could work in small groups and record their findings using simple drawings or by placing a tick beside the materials that kept the water out. Throughout the activity, I would ask questions such as “What do you notice?”, “Why do you think that happened?” and “Do you think we could find a better material? This would encourage the children to think, discuss and come up with their own ideas rather than simply being given the answer. At the end, we would discuss our results as a class and decide which material would be best for keeping Teddy dry. I think this type of activity would work well in Senior Infants as it is practical, hands-on and allows the children to learn through curiosity and investigation.

Hi my name is Paddy. I was teaching on a supply panel last year but this year i will be in SET looking after senior infants. Looking forward to implementing some ideas from the course.
