        Lesson plan:
I will have second class for the upcoming year and the lesson I am going to try out with them is the design a spacecraft. The class will create a spacecraft using ‘junk’ materials. The students will be placed into groups and will discuss and plan their designs together. The students will be shown videos of spacecrafts as the stimulus for the lesson. Pictures will also be available in the room for the students to consult as they plan and design. The students will begin planning and building their spaceships in the class. Once they are finished, each group will present their spacecraft to the class. The students will engage in a discussion about what they learned, what worked well and what they would do differently the next time.

          Online Resources & tools
This module has been so helpful and informative about practical things that can be done in the classroom. There are so many brilliant resources that I am really looking forward to using in my class.
Marvin & Milo: My class absolutely loved comic strips this year and we did a lot of work around them as a style of writing in literacy. I think the children would love these visuals when undertaking a science experiment, it is laid out in a very child friendly way. I also think the students could make their own comics at the end explaining the steps they took when conducting their own experiments.
Stellarium: I was really impressed with this resource and felt there were so many options on how it could be used in the classroom. I feel it would be a brilliant stimulus to a lesson about space to really grab the students attention. It could lead to great discussions and development of oral language skills, discussing the difference with night and day. I also feel there would be great opportunities to link in art- creating a picture with chalk/paint.

A lesson I would like to do with my class around Space and Aliens is Design an Alien.
I would start the lesson by reading the students the story ‘Ten Little Aliens’. I would then ask the children to describe some of the characteristics and brainstorm together on the board. The students will then use their imaginations and draw what they think an Alien would look like. The students will then use clay to model an Alien, thinking about arms, legs and facial features. I would then link in literacy, the students would create a character profile for their alien, thinking about their likes/dislikes and creating a world for them. We will then compare and contrast the different creatures that were made, using oral language to come up with the similarities and differences.

I love the ideas for the different Aistear stations, I could see the students really enjoying this.

A lesson I would teach about the planets in my classroom:
Stimulus: I would start by reading the storybook ‘I want to be an astronaut’ to the students. This book explores the solar system and the planets that orbit the Sun.
Planet Song: I would then introduce the planet song to the students. I would play the video and encourage them to listen to the song and follow along with the lyrics.
Art lesson: The students will discuss and name the characteristics of the different planets, playing attention to colours and finer details. The students will work in pairs to create a planet each, using fabrics and fibres and different materials around the room.
7.Assessment: The students will do a walking gallery around the room to see what the students have created. They will then return to their seats and provide a comment or compliment to someone else in the room.

Hi my name is Olivia, I just had second class and will have them again this upcoming year. My favourite space fact is that the moon is lemon shaped!
I am very passionate about inquiry based learning, children naturally are very inquisitive and are ready to explore and learn more about the world around them. One of my favourite lessons to see the students critical thinking skills is making boats. The students are provided with a variety of materials and using critical thinking they must figure out which boats could float/sink and why this might happen. The students work in groups and this encourages critical thinking. It is always a brilliant lesson to see how the students work together, problem solve and use critical thinking. The lesson is very hands on and the students are able to explain their logic/reasoning in the end.
