I totally agree with this comment.  I too have spent hours trawling through google and twinkl for presentations/ PowerPoints to support what I’m teaching.  With the support of AI this will now be much quicker and easier to make my own with relevant content.  I will no longer have to just use kahoot quizzes.  I can now make my own quiz just based on the topic I’m teaching.

        REFLECTION:

I can really see how AI concepts and tools are going to help teaching and learning in my classroom going forward. It amazes me the speed at which presentations/ quizzes etc can be created to suit my classes personal needs   We have seen some great examples of short snappy things that you could do with children e.g. image creator. Pupils would love that. These tools will reinforce learning and the children will find them engaging.  There has been a lot to take in for someone who is completely new to AI but I hope with time I will become more familiar with the tools mentioned in module 3 and 5.

        Lesson plan:

        Exploring Adjectives through Descriptive Writing

        Class: 3rd and 4th class

        P L C (English):

Learning Outcome 5: Vocabulary – “The child will acquire and use a wide range of vocabulary across a variety of contexts.”
Learning Outcome 6: Sentence Structure and Grammar – “The child will develop an understanding of grammar and sentence structure and apply it in their writing.”
Learning Outcome 8: Creating Texts – “The child will create a range of texts using appropriate language, style, and structure.”

        Students will be able to:

Identify and use adjectives to enhance descriptive writing.
Create a vivid descriptive passage using sensory language and adjectives.
Use their passage to generate an AI image.

        1. Introduction

-Begin with a quick discussion: “What makes writing interesting to read?”

-Transform simple sentences by adding descriptive words

        2. Guided Practice

Read a short descriptive paragraph from class novel and ask the children, in pairs, to write the adjectives on a WB
Discuss how each adjective adds detail and helps paint a picture in our minds.

        3. Independent Writing Task

Students write a descriptive paragraph (6–8 sentences) about a location mentioned in the class novel.
Describe what you see, hear, smell, and feel.”
Encourage use of sensory language and vivid adjectives.
Encourage the use of a thesaurus

        Children’s passages will the

Children’s passages will then be used in an AI image generator to bring the scene to life.  Child will then be asked to be self-critical.  Is this what you pictured? Is there anything missing? Could you add more description?

        Differentiation:
Provide word banks or sentence starters for students who need support.
Challenge early finishers to write a second paragraph or use similes/metaphors

This lesson allows the children the opportunity to use AI in the classroom by inputting their description in an AI tool to create an image for their descriptive passage. There are so many opportunities for AI to enhance teaching and learning. I plan on using some of these tools next year to support my planning and resource making.

I agree with this post.  Khan Academy looks so user friendly and I intend using it to help with SESE lessons.  I am also looking forward to trying out magicschool AI with my class. The personal worded maths problems is a great idea.

I feel Scratch is a fantastic tool and I intend to introduce Scratch to my class.  Scratch would be taught over a number of weeks. Initially coding would be introduced about how it is telling a computer what you want it to do! Show children an example. Open it and go through the character, background, blocks, script and what the green flag means.

Show children how to get a character and look at how this could be built upon with simple instructions. Ideally as it is first introduced this would be done with support teacher/Sna in the class to support. Allow children time to play around with it while each week introducing some additional commands while recapping on previous learning.

One of the possible restrictions to this might be timetabling the use of ipads and chrome books. However all the resources, lesson plans and support which are already created would support my teaching and delivery of the lessons over a period of approximately 6 weeks.

I am also excited to try magic school AI to create worded mathematical problems that the children can relate to.  This also provides differentiation by outcome ie- Start by doing the problems generated for the children at your table, progress to next table and so on.

                PART 1
As I am not from the area I teach in, AI will be very beneficial when I’m researching information on the local area. Gamma will hopefully be able to produce a presentation.
I feel I will get a lot of use out of co-pilot in just the same way as shown on the video. It was a great example of how the children can be critical of their own writing and help them to see where they can improve.
                PART 2
It’s fair to say that there was a huge amount of content to take in during this module. I have been making notes as I went along this module but It is certainly one to save as a PDF and refer back to at different points in the year, going back over my notes frequently can jog my memory. I have used you tube videos in the past to support teaching and learning but always generated the questions myself. With Twee this will be so much easier. I am excited to spend time finding my way around Gamma and Diffit for teachers as I feel these will be real time savers in the area of SESE and SPHE. This module has opened up a whole world of tools I didn’t even know existed — I’m feeling much more optimistic and curious now going into the new school year.

I really like the idea of using AI tools such as Gemini, and CoPilot to help with lesson planning. I feel these would be excellent prompts and would help even with termly and fortnightly planning. They could even be used for Support Plans and helping identify individual learning styles and goals. We lose too much time typing up plans and using something like this could speed it up massively. Obviously, as we saw in the video, particular parts may need to be tweaked and edited but to have a base to start with can be of huge benefit.
My class would absolutely love Minecraft Education . It appeals to all learners, it’s visually attractive , interactive and is a super tool for developing the students creative imagination , maths , STEM and engineering skills while also enhancing their analytical skills.
Tools I found useful this year include speech-to-text or text-to-speech can help students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, making lessons more inclusive.

I too am very interested in Khan Academy, it is something I will look in too in the near future.

I haven’t come across immersive reader before and it looks to be a great tool for the children to use within the classroom.

As mentioned above, I also used google forms to complete Bí Cinealt surveys and can now see how this tool can help with assessment in the classroom.

                      I agree with this completely.

Having only just begun to use chatGPT to support my end of year report writing I was afraid to delve into it too much.  But I can see its potential in helping support teachers in their planning if given specific/ correct information.

This course was my first introduction to Gemini and I am excited to try it on this coming year.

I found module 1 very helpful as I’ve only just started on this AI journey. I can now see the benefits, if used properly. Priority of course is in ensuring the safety of both teachers and pupils.
I have used chat GPT for writing end of year reports and planning purposes and found it very useful when given specific information on a given theme /topic. I look forward to delving into other GEN AI platforms like, Gemini as it will open more gateways for creating lesson content that is visually attractive , meaningful , exciting and will hopefully engage the learner and enhance their learning through digital means.
We do need to be careful not to rely solely on Gen AI tools in our teaching , as teacher led support is the no 1 priority and we’re scaffolding the child’s learning all the time during the school day and promoting positive well -being. By incorporating AI into our daily lessons , yes of course, it offers diverse learning pathways for both teachers and students and it has proven to enhance the teaching and learning outcomes overall , helps monitor individual student progress and fosters students working collaboratively through project work . the list is endless! The future remains exciting with advancements in new Gen AI tools.
