It is clear that the google workspace tools and meet can enhance teaching and learning inside and outside the classroom.
Collaboration and group work can be brought to life using these tools. Children can work together on documents, slides and sheets. The class teacher can use these to monitor student progress and they can be shared with other staff members. This was highlighted in the task where we had to make a form- that was a useful assessment tool. Students can get instant feedback on their performance in these quizzes and further inform their studies.
The use of google slides adds some vibrancy to lessons and the added advantage of being able to add videos and pictures only adds to the meat of lessons. I have not used jamboard much but I welcome the idea of using it should I work in older classes. It would be a good way to share concepts, prior and eventually post lesson knowledge.
We live in a world where digital literacy is a necessary skill. By using google drive for resources and uploading to the google classroom, students are saved from having to manage a lot of paper and books. By being able to access their curriculum essentials online would make life easier!
I work in a junior school so I am fully aware that some of the google classroom tools are too advanced but should I ever move school I would welcome the huge possibilities it has. The fact that a deadline can be assigned linking it to the calendar for the pupils is very helpful for students as they manage their tasks.
During the covid era we all had a crash session on various online teaching methods. Google classroom is an excellent option for instruction online if children are learning at home. Google meet can be used as a virtual classroom to allow pupils to be taught and for discussion to take place. Meet sessions can also be recorded for pupils that missed a lesson. Teachers can upload slides of topics that were covered and pupils can look over them again to support them doing further work.
I made a google slides all about me for use with a new class. It is intended to help pupils to get to know each other in a fun way. They learn all about the Teacher first. I feel that when you let them in a little bit they feel more secure to share.

This is the most amazing idea as a little ice breaker for the start of the year. The privacy of it is a great way for the teacher to fins out privately who may struggle a little socially.
This is a great way to get student input on bullying without asking them directly. The privacy of it may elicit more honest replies. This will provide great data when moving forward with the anti bullying policy.
From reading the document ‘formative assessment and self regulated learning’ it is clear that how we assess children is changing. Assessment now is so much more than the formative test but listening to the child and involving them in the process.
Children have much to gain from peer feedback and this helps with self regulation which can improve learning outcomes. William and black also stress that children can gain much by assessing themselves and that it can help them plan for the next step in their learning journey. One point that I feel is very important is that the assessment is only useful if the results are used in a proper way to bring on the child.
When kids have ownership in the process they can be motivated to achieve to a higher level. This empowerment is something we all need to try and harness.I have taught first class the past academic year. I am including a link to a quiz on adjectives as they covered this a lot!

It is evident that todays children require a different setting and opportunities for learning to strive in todays’ world. Our world is changing at a rapid rate, and education needs to reflect this.
The more traditional methods of teaching have started to gather dust and children today need learning experiences to be tailored to their learning needs.
One area that is continually being mentioned is that of collaboration and its unmistakable contribution it can make to children’s journey. When kids collaborate together on set tasks, they can learn from each other in a fun memorable way.
The workplace has changed in recent years and children need to be strong in their collaboration skills and problem skills. Older teaching methods that have been less interactive have possibly limited children to be able to think outside the box and approach problems with a different lens.
The skills of global awareness and cultural sensitivity are paramount for the modern 21st century. Digital literacy is now a non-negotiable to thrive in this changing world.
The task that I have chosen to include is that of a weekly problem solving task. We as a school are working on problem solving as our area for maths. It is also an area that feeds into literacy.
The challenge involves creating pictures to match a problem solving exercise. I would use cubes as a sample for them in the class . I would pose a question and the children would try to solve it with concrete materials. For example –https://docs.google.com/document/d/15XiCHXqQpptUJBnQgg13w7n9OjH6NE-wOwPbNabfNgk/edit?usp=sharing
This will be uploaded to google classroom as a google document and the children have to make pictures using concrete materials to solve it. They can email a picture of their working out if they can.
Google slides with accompanying voice recordings is something that i am going to explore this year. I am in the Infant classes and this is something we could put together and showcase to other classes by sending the link! This I feel would be excellent at the end of covering a topic in SESE or science .

I feel completely bogged down dragging all the files of paperwork with me when it could all be in a drive/ digital. I really hope that in time Inspectors accept our paper work digitally.

Having used the class dojo and now dipping my feet into the google classroom, I am already aware of the various possibilities for this tool in furthering children’s learning. Reflecting on my own upload to the classroom ( mindfulness piece, common maths words), my children have gained much from doing the meditation session at home.
I could measure progress with the maths words from assessing them after the video has been up for a few weeks. I would do an assessment of the words and then after using the video.
The possibilities for google classroom and school self evaluation are vast. When resources are uploaded they act as a record of what has been covered and they can be reused if a teacher was in the same year group the next year. The function where you make announcements ( stream) is amazing for giving a little nudge to all pupils if engagement is below expected.
Google sheets is helpful when recording attainment for learning objectives across a term. It can be updated when children reach a certain level. Samples of work can also be saved in google drive with each child having their own folder.
Google classroom also provides a great opportunity for teachers to work together and share expertise. One teacher may have a strength in a certain area and this can be shared with another who needs direction . Sharing our skillset like this is very good for productivity.I love this idea. At the start of new topics we always create a mind map to see where the kids are and then again at the end to see what we have learned. It works as a great assessment tool for the class to explore themselves aswell .

The resource is used for creating a presentation/ think of a story idea. In our school we all create a book for book week. This resource will support this process. We have a class teddy called George. Every weekend a different child brings him home and they send me pictures of their adventures together. The week before our annual book week we put all the pictures into a book titled ‘ The adventures of George’ and add the sentences to make up the story. This will be easily done in google drive using the slides.
When the book is complete, we invite other classes in to see it and watch the recording on the whiteboard. All the parents come into the hall to look at all the books. I include a QR code on the back page so they all have access to it!
I record myself reading it and upload it to Youtube ( private link for access only). For ease of access I generate a QR code that takes them directly to the story.
I feel that the use of google forms could be a good way to provide a little quiz on our story for the others. It would make it a meaningful resource for the literacy curriculum. -
