I think the Google Workspace tools are suitable for a blended approach to teaching because they are incredibly easy to use, very accessible and allow for collaborative work between teachers and between teachers and students. After completing this course I can see how the Google Workspace tools can be used to deliver instruction in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, online, and blended. This illustrates how flexible the Google Workspace tools are. This is important for students who learn in different ways and who have different needs.

I think Covid would have been a very different experience if teachers and students had had more experience with Google Workspace tools etc.  For example, students using Google Docs to work on a group project together, even if they are not in the same physical location. The tools allow students to participate in class discussions and activities even if they are not physically present in the classroom. This would have been invaluable during covid.

As stated on previous forums one aspect I particularly like is the ability to discretely differentiate. As children get older they become more aware if they are unable to complete work and this is disheartening. These tools can help to mitigate some of that.

Having been on career break for the past five years there have been enormous technological changes in the classroom. I’ve enjoyed doing this course especially the practical elements like the above Slides presentation. I found this really easy to use. I am looking forward to experimenting more with the different tools and putting them to use in the classroom.

I created a Forms Assessment based on the sub-topic of clothing within the topic of the Vikings. It is geared towards 2nd/3rd class.

One of the great advantages of Google Forms is the feedback allowed for different answers. This can encourage and congratulate students but also allows for gentle guidance towards the correct answer for the next assessment.

I would anticipate differentiating assessments in Google Forms in my classroom. For example adding pictures or videos to help support weaker students. It is great that this can be done more discretely using Google Forms.

Google forms is definitely more efficient. When I think about the time and resources spent photocopying tests for every student, not to mention correcting them.

Great quiz Deirdre. It is really concise and great use of pictures and video to help keep the students interested and allows for discrete differentiation.

Sorry – reposting as plain text.

The skill I have chosen is “Becoming smarter about new sources of information”. I think this is particularly important at the moment as we deal with “fake news” and AI. I saw an interesting news article recently about how history textbooks in Russia have been hastily re-written to include Putin’s “special military operation” in Ukraine. This illustrates that we cannot always be sure of what we are reading.

I think developing this skill involves not only helping students identify reliable sources, but we must help students develop responsibility and accountability when online.

One possible lesson which would be geared more towards older students could be completed using Google Docs. For example, assigning students the task of searching online for an article and assessing the article to ascertain how credible it is. they could create a table in Docs and answer the following questions.

            Who wrote the article?

What is the author’s point of view?

            When was the article written?

Where does the author get their information?

            Why was the article written?

Developing responsibility and accountability when online is something that can be taught and encouraged from a younger age. I would love to see more resources in this regard e..g. The Stay Safe programme updated to reflect online bullying etc.

As a newcomer to Google Classroom I have found it very user friendly and I look forward to using many of the features when teaching.

I really like the idea of using it for assessment. The quiz feature is particularly interesting and I think that this could also be used to discretely differentiate within the classroom.

I also really like the collaborative element to Google Classroom. There will be three streams of my class and I’m hopeful that Google Classroom will help us to work together more efficiently and effectively.

From a whole school point of view I think the idea of portfolios is very interesting. I think it would be brilliant to create portfolios over the 8 years of primary school.

Digital technology can allow us to enhance our students learning through differentiation. Students who need extra time to go over lessons can be afforded this opportunity while more able students are able to work ahead independently. This can also help to free up the teacher to work with children with individual needs.

Most students in our classrooms today have great exposure to technology and they tend to view it as a more interesting and more engaging way of learning.

I am returning to teaching after a career break so I am a novice to Google Classroom so it is great to do this course and see the wealth of resources available.

I chose the above lesson on creating art in Sheets and I really like the idea of linking it with a lesson on famous artists or a piece of art inspired by a country. This allows for great cross curricular learning.
