Hi Elaine, your digital story using google slides sounds brilliant and I am sure will be a huge hit in your class when you get back to school.
Hi John, the voice typing is a brilliant idea and something I will definitely be looking at using in the year ahead.
Google Workspace and its accessibility features could support School Self-Evaluation by helping schools gather information, identify areas for improvement and ensure all pupils can participate in learning. Google Forms could be used to collect feedback from pupils, staff and parents, while the results could be organised and analysed using Google Sheets. Accessibility features, such as voice typing, screen readers and adjustable text settings, can help reduce barriers for pupils with additional needs. As part of SSE, my school could evaluate how effectively these digital tools are being used and identify ways to improve inclusive practice across the school.
The activity I chose was for children to write about their hopes for the year ahead in sixth class this activity supports inclusion and pupil engagement by giving all children the opportunity to reflect on and share their aspirations for 6th class. I decided to offer voice typing as an option on docs as it provides an alternative for pupils who may find written expression challenging, reducing barriers to participation. The activity also gives me valuable insight into each child’s interests, goals and expectations. This can inform future planning, allow me to provide individual feedback and help identify appropriate next steps for each pupil.

My digital story on starting up a class contract at the beginning of the school year with children being able to input with what they think is important when creating a contract.
Google Workspace will be a valuable tool for me in my teaching, particularly as I become more confident using technology in the classroom. In the past, I have been somewhat reluctant to rely too heavily on technology, as I often preferred more traditional teaching methods. However, after completing this course, I can now see the many benefits it can offer both teachers and children.
Tools such as Google Slides, Docs and Forms can make lessons more interactive, engaging and accessible. They can also encourage children to collaborate, share ideas and develop important digital skills. Google Classroom will help me organise resources and assignments in one place, making it easier for pupils to access their work and for me to provide feedback. This will be particularly important as I am teaching 6th class this coming year.
I now see technology as something that can support and enhance my teaching rather than replace traditional methods. Going forward, I hope to find a good balance between both approaches.Hi Daragh, your point about the form being a low stakes way for the children to take ownership over their learning is very important and beneficial for the children.
William (2014) highlights seven strategies that makes up assessment for learning. The first strategy involves providing students with a clear and understandable vision of the learning target. I believe that this is highly important to the success of lessons with children as when they are shown the end goal or target of a lesson it increases their engagement in the lesson from start to finish.
The form I have put together is a form I hope to use before starting my first topic of the year in 6th class which is place value. This form will give me a clear understanding of the childrens prior knowledge when it comes to place value. Having this information will then allow me to push the children who seem to have a strong grasp of the concept and also provide further support to the children who may find it challenging. I ensured that the quiz isn’t too strenuous or challenging as this could be overwhelming for children when completing on their first week back to school.
Hi Daragh, your adjustment of using structured peer feedback is something that I think would bring great value to the reflection process.
For my learning sequence in module 2, I chose the topic of buildings, sites and ruins in my locality for 6th class. The main task will be for the children to create a google document containing information on an old building, site or ruin in their locality. Linking in with the design principle of clarity I will structure the google doc so that the children include the specific details of the task required. This ensures that the children have a clear understanding of what is being asked of them for the project. One adjustment I would make is the inclusion of peer feedback in the task so the children become used to examining and reflecting on other projects and also being able to receive feedback from their peers in a constructive way. The peer feedback could be shared in using google forms which would keep a clear record of what was said so that the children could benefit the most from the feedback. The SSE would have a clear log of what worked and didnt work when reviewing the following year.
I am set to start teaching 6th for the first time this coming September and in this new age of digital technology I am keen to try make the best use of it possible while benefitting the children’s learning. Digital technology can play a significant role in enhancing learning in a 6th class by promoting collaboration, creativity and independent learning.
In the school I am teaching in we are lucky to have one set of ipads that we share aceoss the 8 classes . These are very beneficial to the school community and the children respond very well when using them. Looking forward to this year I am aware that I cannot have unlimited access to the Ipads so I want to ensure that what time we have with them is effecient and we are able to get the most out of them.
The SSE process encourages teachers to use evidence to improve teaching and learning. Digital tools such as Google Forms can be used to gather pupil feedback, assess understanding through quizzes and analyse learning trends. This information can then inform future planning and support targeted interventions where needed. At a whole-school level, increased use of digital technology can strengthen collaboration between staff, improve communication with parents and ensure a consistent approach to teaching and assessment.
In the coming year our school has decided to use a shared google drive amongst staff that will store different resources and documents that each member of staff will be able to access and use.
The resource from the Google for Education Teacher Centre that I would use is the create interactive assignemnets using google slides. This would be great for projects in SESE.
