After completing this course on Google workplace tools I can see that they can most definitely enhance teaching and learning both inside and outside the classroom. These tools allow teachers to create, give and correct assignments efficiently. I like the way that announcements and class discussions can be managed all together in one platform. It is also invaluable in that google classroom integrates with other google workspace tools like docs, sheets, slides google drive. I am not very technically minded as you can see from my presentations but this course has given me the drive to try and use this in my teaching from September. I really liked the create your own logo and especially the slides to make your own presentations. I really like the fact that you can create and record assessments and use this for planning and collaboration with other staff members. Google meet is a really effective communication tool also. The student portfolios are excellent in that they can create digital portfolios to showcase their work. These tools are also effective in their use outside the classroom also such as the google calendar for scheduling reminders and assignments. The Google chat allows for communication between teachers and students and it allows for group discussions. I loved the idea of google jamboard where the students and teachers can brainstorm and collaborate on an interactive whiteboard and also the remote collaboration for remote learning. Going forward I will try and use these tools to make my lessons more engaging and inviting for the children in my classroom.

I used this quiz as a quick revision for learning the basics about the Titanic https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOX-Of9gmXlpc6aJXfqpDUlmQ1eWXBW0xm-7J3KeWy1XATvw/viewform?usp=sf_link I would use this in 2nd class as we have briefly touched on this topic in the past. The children I find are always fascinated about the Titanic and how it was known as the unsinkable ship. I find they engage really well with this topic. I think that these are a great tool to use in the classroom and after completing this module it has given me the confidence to use this in my class going forward. I especially love the voice typing and I have used it this year for a dyslexic child and would use it a lot more going forward. I would also going forward use google forms for assessments as it allows feedback to be given to children privately. I also liked how you can link youtube videos as this allows the children to reflect over what they might have struggled with and the visual aids are beneficial to the visual learners. I will also use the google forms for recording the assessments and the pie charts etc will be an invaluable aid to my planning, assessing and recording going forward
deirdre,

The paper “Redesigning Education: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century” by Hallissy, Butler, Marshall, and Hurley (2013) presents a vision for transforming education to prepare students for the complexities and demands of the future workplace. It highlights the importance of the integration of technology and its meaningful integration into the curriculum along with developing the student’s ability to use the digital tools and resources effectively and ethically. The importance of skill development was highlighted in that it allows for critical thinking and problem solving. It encourages the ability to approach problems creatively. It also involves collaboration and communication which fosters teamwork and good communication skills in person and digitally. It also mentions lifelong learning and how to instill a love of learning and the ability to acquire continuously new knowledge and skills.
Teachers can use the many google workspace. Having looked at the Olympic site selection https://drive.google.com/file/d/1576HUBYnKd3OCK9MEjnpeXspMWREmSKD/ view the children could also be encouraged to design a community playground where they would have to apply the skills of critical thinking and problem solving. This could be done using google docs, slides, questionnaires and drawings. The children will work together and foster good communication skills as they approach the task creatively and critically.July 15, 2024 at 3:29 pm in reply to: Module 2 – Introduction to Google Workspace & Classroom #214472Google Classroom can be an effective tool for implementing a flipped classroom approach due to many reasons. It has great features such as allowing teachers to share easily videos, articles, images and other resources with the children. The children can both engage with material at home and at school. The children can also access materials at any time from any device that has internet access. This is effective in that some students could engage with the learning content at home and be prepared for class lessons.
Google classroom has many tools which I did not know prior to this course such as slides, google docs, hangouts and drive and all are integrated. It is also an effective means of communication between children and teachers through the email notifications, class announcements or the private comments that can be made.
Teachers can also give, collect and grade tasks and can give feedback which is essential for a flipped classroom. Another great feature I think is that it allows teachers to differentiate the different learning needs of the children in the classroom. It also allows the children to engage in the tasks that are level appropriate for them. Here is my sample class lesson https://classroom.google.com/u/2/c/NzAwODczNTQ0OTMz
There are huge benefits in using digital technology to enhance children’s learning. It allows the children to engage and participate fully in the learning experience. I have had a child in my class this year who was highly dyslexic and I tried to use ict as much as possible in my lessons so he felt he was part of the learning experiences in the classroom. It was great for differentiation as it is subtle and allows for inclusion and for confidence in his/her own learning abilities.
SSE will allow me to reflect on my current practices such as self – reflection and student feedback. It will help me to identify the focus areas that I want to improve upon such as student engagement and assessment methods and my SMART goals.I have chosen the build your own logo from the google education centre https://applieddigitalskills.withgoogle.com/c/middle-and-high-school/en/build-a-logo-to-express-who-you-are/build-a-logo-to-express-who-you-are/introduction-to-build-a-logo-to-express-who-you-are.html
I think this will be a fantastic back to school lesson. It can be integrated in other subjects such as art and maths as well as language. It would help them to build confidence and would allow them to express their individuality and ideas. I think it would also help them to develop problem solving skills, enhance their IT skills and gain understanding of design principles also related to art. It would also encourage creativity. It’s fun, engaging and interactive and could improve focus, patience and communication skills. I’m looking forward to trying this out in September and see how the children enjoy it. -
