      I am sharing: The Lungs.

ICT has always been of interest to me. When I began teaching I was luckily able to learn from my own 5th and 6th class teacher who although was of an older generation, she was very tech savvy and keen to upskill. She was a great influence and support to me. When I began teaching there were no laptops, whiteboard, smart boards etc. I feel like the ICT upgrades back then were slower and easier to keep on top of. In the past 5 years the speed of development has been intense! I feel like once I master a skill/ website/ system then 5 more appear and I am back to the drawing board!
Tools like Groups, classroom, google drive etc are so beneficial to our teaching. They make topics interesting and interactive. They enable us to reach pupils regardless of their location. They enable teachers to share resources and support each other in resource creation, short and long term planning.
During the pandemic I found it very difficult as I was upskilling at the same time as trying to teach the children. The pupils needed help using platforms and programmes but I needed help myself! Since then I have gained confidence in making videos for teaching, embracing a flipped classroom approach and using e-portfolios.
This year I am looking forward to implementing google classroom and hopefully supporting my colleagues to do the same. I will start small and implement ICT in the classroom from the beginning of the year. I will explain it to parents at the September meeting and gain their support as this is also vital.

I created a forms quiz for 2-d shapes.
In the past I have used Google forms for staff surveys. I never thought abut using it for pupils. I am looking forward to implementing this in the classroom this year. Like everything that is new to me- it will take time at the start but I love that once I create the resource/ assessment that I will then have it forever! I can constantly edit and update what I have depending on the class/ pupils I teach. As I teach with 2 other teachers in my stream I think this is something we could share and hep each other with.

I think using ICT for assessment can make it less formal and overwhelming for pupils.
I think the ability for the teacher to have results online and instant is a definite pro.

I found the paper “Redesigning Education: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century” quite interesting but also something I would like more time to digest properly. I find such documents can be overwhelming when you read them first and try to take too much from it. I would love to see some hands-on teacher training in ICT so that we can all become proficient in our use of it and pass that knowledge onto the pupils. The webinars from the PLC inservice days were not successful so if we want our staff and pupils to become successful digital citizens then we need the support and training.
I am thrilled to see that there is a playlist for Digital Citizenship and Safety- I think this is something entire school communities will benefit from and will definitely be on my yearly plan this year.
I would like to develop the skill of collaboration with the pupils. I think sometimes I set a group task but I don’t necessarily assess the collaboration. I mainly focus on the product and neglect the process. I love the idea of the rubric and decision tree- I think I could use these to structure my learning outcomes and my assessment.

I found this module very informative and very interesting! Setting up a google classroom was not as hard as I had imagined and although I have not used it before I found my experience of social media, Seesaw, school blogging helpful.
Initially I was worried about the class stream- children commenting and chatting etc and also as busy teacher this would mean another thing I would have to oversee and “police”. I would be happier to set up the classroom without the pupils having permission to comment and when I was more confident and was sure they would follow the guidelines then I could introduce it.
I am looking forward to setting it up in September as I think the pupils would gain a lot from using it. I think 4th class is a great age to introduce new IT initiatives. I think the ability to set group assignments and to encourage the pupils to work collaboratively is fantastic. I also think I will make use of Google forms for assessment- it is a tool we regularly use with teachers and parents so it would be great to make use of it in the classroom.

I have used Google Drive and some other tools before but I have never used Google Classroom. I had never heard of the Applied Digital Skills section and I cant believe how useful it is! Obviously I will need more time to go through and become more competent in using it.
              I liked this lesson:
              https://applieddigitalskills.withgoogle.com/c/middle-and-high-school/en/build-a-logo-to-express-who-you-are/overview.html
It teaches the students ( and teacher!!!!!) how to design a logo that describes their personality using google drawings.
I thought it would be a great lesson to teach at beginning of the year as I was getting to know the students and their own unique personalities. I do not know the students I will be teaching in September or their level of IT skills. I thought the pace of this lesson would suit all abilities. I might also use peer tutoring and peer support to help those who were struggling.
