Write a reflective piece on how you are going to focus on developing that skill in your classroom.

I think that developing critical thinking skills is very important for today’s world where media is easily available and not always reliable.

I think it is important to teach children that they cannot trust that every source is reliable and we need to explicitly teach children howto recognise reliable and unreliable sources.

Children should also be encouraged to see different view points. In a world where online content is tailored to meet the individuals preferences, children need, more than ever, to experience and engage with other perspectives. Children should be presented with different ideas and points of view. They should read from a variety of stand-points. Debates in class would help develop skills also. Children should engage in persuasive writing and be taught to write persuasively from a stand-point that differs with their own personal opinion. They should be presented with data that they must then analyse- graphs, surveys, pie charts etc should be presented to children and they should learn to draw conclusions based on this. They should also conduct real life research in their classroom- collecting data from classmates and interpreting it and then making decisions based on their findings.

Here are some classroom ideas which I included in my sway:

Read many opinions on a topic and construct your own

Examine different sources of evidence to research a historical event

Write a story from several different viewpoints

Read a novel and write a diary from the perspective of the charachter

      Engage in class debates

Make a presentation arguing in favour of something that you are not personally in favour of

Watch television and video ads and interpret what message they are trying to convey

Compare and contrast perspectives on a topic from multiple sources

Read news items from a variety of sources and determine which they find most credible

Rank historical events in order of most important/influential

How I can use digital technology in my classroom to enhance learning:

        1. Stay familiar with and continue to upskill in the area of assistive technology- immersive reader, type to learn etc

2.Encourage children to express their ideas using digital technology

        3. Present work to the students using a variety of digital media in order to enhance engagement withy the material

        4. Continue to stay on top of new apps to use to enhance learning

5.Use digital media for record keeping and assessment- eportfolios etc

        6. Use digital media to collaborative with colleagues, communicate with students and parents and to invite external speakers

into ther classroom virtually using MS teams or other media

        7. Encourage and assist students to access and retrieve information online

How can I apply SSE guidelines to my own teaching?

        1. By using the statements of effective practice in the Digital Learning Framework and identifying and comparing my own use of digital technology in my teaching

        2. By becoming more familiar with the DLF and SSE and sharing my knowledge with colleagues

        3. By embedding digital technologies into my teaching where relevant and useful

        4. By engaging in continued refection on my own teaching and use of digital technology and identifying areas where I can improve.

        5. By assisting as part of the digital learning team.

What impact can developing your own use of digital technology have at school level?

        1. By developing my own use of digital technology I can create digital resources that could be shared with colleagues

and stored and reused in the school

        2. I can help new teachers or those who are not confident in their own digital skills

        3. I can use technology to collaborative with other teaching staff.

How does one note expand and support deeper learning opportunities for students?

          1. SEN students, EAL students and struggling readers will benefit from a host of assistive technology features on one note. The immersive reader will read the text for them. The font size and type can be changed, as can the background colour and spacing. It will also break the words into syllables or parts of speech. This is a hugely beneficial feature for struggling learners.

It can read different languages. The picture dictionary is also a very useful tool, particularly for EAL students who might be able to read the word but don’t recognise it. Those learning a new language will benefit from hearing it being read. Teachers can also add audio as an extra help.

2.One note can support a range of learning styles such as visual learners, audio learners and those who prefer reading and writing. Visual learners will enjoy watching videos and looking at images. There is an audio function for audio learners. The lessons can be interactive also.

          3. One note is more enaging to students as it has the potential to be very visually attractive. You can embed video, audio, pictures, links and quizzes

          making it interactive.

          4. It lays work out in a reliable and familiar format if you reuse templates. You can colour code work and topics. It can help keep students organised and on track. It organises work into manageable folder type chapters. This makes it easy for students to find work and keep trackof learning. I think this could be particularly helpful to students with dyslexia, adhd or problems with executive functioning.

Consider how MS teams can be used for shared department and classroom resources listing the challenges and opportunities

MS Teams is a fantastic resource for collaboration. It can be used to share assignments and feedback with students. It can be used

to share instructional powerpoints and videos also. These can then be shared with colleagues.

Files can be worked on collaboratively with colleagues in real time.

It is a good way to host external speakers.

The chat function is a great way to communicate with both students and colleagues as is the video call function.

It is useful also that you can communicate both within and outside the organisation. I find it a useful way of communicating with parents.

We use MS teams in our school and personally, I find it very useful and full of opportunities. The only challenge I have

encountered with MS teams is students chatting to each other during the lockdown (which I know can also be a good thing) and also I found it a bit tricky to navigate.

This course is definitely helping in that regard, as is the Microsoft education centre which up until now, I had no idea existed.

Reflect on the potential classroom use of these tools and how this can impact on the school self evaluation process:

                  Classroom use

Sway: Sway could be used to present projects and presentations in any area of SESE, for example a science report, history essay or Geography project.

It could also be used in art, music or SPHE.

Sway would be particularly useful at the publishing stage of English writing.

It would help children to share their work with an audience.

Children can co-author work which gives them a real-life sense of the editing and publishing process.

The fact that Sway presents the work in such an attractive and appealing way would encourage children to take pride in their work.

Sway has many features to benefit SEN students as it has an accessibility checker.

It would be very suitable for class blogging and creating a school newsletter.

Sway would be an excellent resource for teachers using the ‘flipped classroom’ approach as they coyuld share information presentations in advance of the lesson in an enaging way with multimedia.

Forms: Forms is great for both gathering evidence and for creating quizzes. It provides both formative and summative assessment.

In terms of differentiation it’s particularly useful as you can provide individualised feedback and even attach instructional videos which will show if you get an incorrect answer.

Its easy to gauge where a class is at as you can give whole class assessment that give an average percentage.

The fact that the quizzes are interactive and digital make them more engaging.

                  School self-evaluation

Sway: This year our school chose writing for our sse focus. Sway would be a good way to improve presentation at the publishing stage.

Forms: The survey function on forms is perfect for the gathering evidence and analysing and making judgements stages of school self evaluation.

It could be used again at the evaluating impact stage. Children’s progress could also be monitored using before and after quizzes.
