I love this lesson idea. I think now with using AI for prompts, children will see the even importance of using adjectives to find specific answers or make images they exactly want. I love how it starts of simple with getting some extra words to describe the castle and the lesson progresses nicely with different activities such as AI detective or continuing on their own paragraphs. This is an idea I definitely would use if I had a senior class. Thank you
My infants love a little gaeilge quiz at the end of each topic and we always do it by group tables as a team together. I originally tried out copilot to make a multiple choice quiz using images bu it did require me to upload the images from the theme individually which could be done easily with a little more time. I also tried to use quizzizz now called wayground but this site requires permission for me to register with my school. Nevertheless i next went to my old reliable chat gpt and it actually gave me a fantasic idea for a quiz as shown below.
Gaeilge – An Fómhar: Fómhar Quiz
Rang: Junior & Senior InfantsTéama: An Fómhar
Príomhfhócas: Stór focal agus tuiscint
Modh: Tráth na gceist foirne – Multiple Choice
Focus Words / Stór Focal:Fómhar – Autumn, duilleoga – leaves, duilleog – leaf, buí – yellow, dearg – red, donn – brown, ag titim – falling, crann – tree, iora rua – red squirrel, gráinneog – hedgehog, cnónna – nuts, cóta – coat, oráiste – orange, puimcín – pumpkin
Lesson Introduction
Begin by showing the children an autumn picture and ask:“Cad atá sa phictiúr?”
Introduce/revise each focus word using a picture or real object where possible. For example: 🍂 duilleog 🍂🍂 duilleoga 🌳crann🐿️ iora rua 🦔 gráinneog 🥜 cnónna 🎃puimcín 🧥 cóta
Practise the vocabulary together using repetition, actions and gestures.
For ag titim, let the children pretend to be leaves falling from a tree!Tá an duilleog ag titim!”
Main Activity – An Fómhar Quiz
Put the children into small teams of 3–4.
Give each team four answer cards: A | B | C | D
Explain: “Éistigí leis an gceist. Labhraígí le chéile. Roghnaígí A, B, C nó D.”Show one question at a time on the board. Use large pictures alongside the Irish words to support Junior Infants.
Cén séasúr é seo? 🍂A – An geimhreadh B-An samhradh C- An t-earrach D-An fómhar
Nuair atá an quiz críochnaithe, déan <“Repeat After Me” leis na focail ar fad:
Fómhar! 🍂Duilleog! 🍁 Duilleoga! 🍂🍂 Buí! 🟡 Dearg! 🔴Donn! 🟤 Ag titim! ⬇️ Crann! 🌳<Iora rua! 🐿️ Gráinneog! 🦔 Cnónna! 🥜 Cóta! 🧥 Oráiste! 🟠 Puimcín! 🎃For Junior Infants, I’d have the emphasis on recognising the picture and saying the word. For Senior Infants, I’d encourage them to answer in a full phrase, e.g. “Is puimcín é”, “Tá an duilleog ag titim”, or “Tá an duilleog buí.”
Hi Mary,
I also liked the idea of Robogarden. I tried to explore further but i need to set up a class first. I feel I don’t make enough use of Chromebooks in school and I feel Robograden would make a great start for coding!
Osmo is one of the tools that particularly grabbed my attention. It is an educational tool that uses a red base on the top of an ipad with real physical objects that are laid out on a play mat in front of the ipad. The children move the physical objects based on the task at hand. As an infant teacher I am particularly mindful of younger students having a lot of screen time and what I liked about this tool, is that it combines screen time with physical play.
While some teachers, mentioned it uses for SET (which I completely agree would be fantastic), I would hope to use this in station teaching, perhaps after some lessons, it could be an independent station with at least 2 kits so the students could work in pairs and take turns with the physical objects. The little genius starter kit is one I would hope to start off with its junior infants allowing students to work on activities involving letter recognition and phonics., while the early math adventure could be introduced to the senior infants in the room.
Part 1
The AI tools suggested in module 3 look to be of huge benefit to the classroom. For myself, I found Copilot very impressive, as an infant teacher, my students are easily stimulated by fun, eye catching images and this tool could serve as a nice way to introduce a topic of discussion on any theme. I also liked Microsoft reading coach. Dealing with multi grade this would be very beneficial for catering different abilities with different levels and interests to suit all children.
Part 2
Magic Link is definitely a tool I hope to explore more of. I feel it will be very beneficial in creating lesson plans and providing extra activities on topics. I often play a you tube videos on certain topics and therefore I feel I would use twee to assess after. I love using power point in my lessons so Gamma is another I hope to apply. Finally, with Gamma, I think this will be vital in terms of planning for differentiation. as I mentioned above, having multi-grade I often find myself trying to find extra work for the more capable or ‘ early finishers’ in the class and this would certainly be of help. With all these tools at hand, it will certainly save a huge amount of time for teachers and assessment is almost instant with these tools.
I think the idea of using Copilot to develop vocabulary is a fantastic idea for the infant classroom. Thanks for sharing.
July 9, 2026 at 9:54 am in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #257263Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the learning and teaching experience in the classroom in many positive ways. It can cater to individual students’ needs by providing more personalised learning experiences and adapting content to suit different abilities and learning styles. AI also reduces teachers’ administrative workload by assisting with tasks such as grading, assessments, and data management, giving educators more time to focus on teaching and supporting their students. Through data-driven insights, AI can identify gaps in learning, provide real-time feedback, and help teachers make informed decisions about their teaching strategies. It also offers modern and engaging teaching methods that can enhance student learning and motivation. AI can improve the accuracy of assessments, support language learning through interactive tools, and prepare students for future careers for e.g. Mine craft education offers children the chance to create with code, do science experiments and build cities etc- thus inspiring future engineers, designers and biologists. Overall, AI has the potential to make education more innovative, personalised, and effective for both students and teachers.
One of the main challenges is the cost of introducing AI technologies, as well as providing appropriate training for teachers to use them effectively. It can also be difficult for educators to determine whether work completed by students is genuinely their own or has been generated using AI. Data protection and student privacy are important concerns, as schools must ensure that personal information is stored and used securely. There is also the risk of bias within AI systems, making it essential to use reliable tools and regularly monitor their outputs. In addition, schools need to engage parents and the wider community to build understanding and confidence in the use of AI. Ethical issues, such as the responsible and fair use of AI, must also be considered.
July 9, 2026 at 9:53 am in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #257262Immersive Reader also caught my attention, a few of my past pupils automatically sprang to mind of who I believe would make great use of this. As a class teacher I feel time would be an issue but i think it could greatly be utilised in SET.
One of the major benefits of AI tools is the time saver aspect, allowing teachers to cut down on endless paper work time and help them generate ideas quicker. I myself, have used Canva ai to make some resources like pictures for topics or easy worksheets. I have also used chat GPT to help with my planning, specifically providing me with ideas for books for certain topics, or giving me links to websites that provide games/ activities. I hope to explore more tools going forward like Vidnoz or pictory and I would hope to create my own interactive games based on topics I am doing. I had seen someone mentioned in the forum about creating quizzes for assessment, I thought this was fantastic use of AI or just creating your own assessments in general would be great. I find sometimes with chat gpt it can be tricky to create images you want so maybe exploration of another tool here would be more beneficial.
Hi Helen,
I think a huge benefit so far with AI is the time saving aspect like you mentioned. It definitely helps with wording and fining suitable targets for our planning as well as providing ideas for topics!
