In reply to Enya Roche it would be important to differentiate within the class setting and the activities would lend itself easily to this. Students that were hands on learners would be able to access the activity and there would be lots of opportunities for children to record, report, draw etc covering a variety of learning styles.
The Eso has provided an easy to use lesson plan for children and teachers alike. Both activities Weather or Climate and Weather Detectives provide activities to explore aspects of weather and climate, work collaboratively and investigate data. There is ample opportunity for cross curricular links especially with maths – graphs, averages, researching online to compare data. Topics for discussions in activity 1 allows students to discuss statements and collabrate using their own lived experiences eg last year on my birthday it was sunny. I would use both activities in my classroom as they allow for enquiry, prediction, investigation and as mentioned cross curricular.
Hello Olivia, I agree as teachers we spend a significant amount of time looking for resources, a powerpoint/quiz/ additional reading material to support children’s learning. By using AI whether it is copilot of Quiziz the time spent is significantly less and the outcome is by far superior. The use of efficient or accurate prompts is the key to getting the most suitable outcome.
I would start to use AI in my classroom by using co pilot to create a lesson plan/ information on a topic the class might be learning for example the Famine.
I would be inclined to use copilot to create quizzes in all the SESE subjects and then copy and paste into Quiziz. I really liked this resource and feel it is effective, there is ease of use and it integrates easily with the likes of Kahoot which my children would be familiar with.

Subject: History
Topic: Ancient Egypt
Grade Level: 4th class
Time Allotment: 60-75 minutes (adaptable)Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to:Identify key aspects of Ancient Egyptian civilization (e.g., Nile River, pharaohs, pyramids, mummification, hieroglyphs).
Understand the importance of the Nile River to Ancient Egyptian life.
Engage with AI tools to explore and present information about Ancient Egypt.
Materials:
Interactive whiteboard or projector
Computers/tablets (one per student or pair) with internet access
Use of copilot image creator and microsoft speaker coach
Art supplies (paper, pencils, markers, possibly clay or construction paper for pyramid building)
AI Integration Note: The AI tools will be used as a “presenter” and “research assistant” to make the learning engaging and interactive. The teacher will guide the children with the correct prompts to get a useful output.
Lesson Procedure:
1. Hook & Prior Knowledge Activation (10 minutes)Teacher uses an intriguing image from Ancient Egypt to get started, created by copilot.Display it on the screen.
Think-Pair-Share: “What do you notice about this image? What comes to mind when you think of Ancient Egypt? Share with your partner for one minute.”
Whole Class Share: Invite a few students to share their initial thoughts.
2. The Gift of the Nile (15 minutes)
Use the AI presentation tool to generate a short, child-friendly explanation of the Nile River’s importance (e.g., providing water, fertile land for farming, transportation). Include a map of Egypt and the Nile.
Discussion: “Why was the Nile so important? What would life be like without it?”
Activity: Nile River Story (Individual or Pair Work)
Teacher: “Imagine you are an Ancient Egyptian living by the Nile.
The AI generates a simple story prompt, e.g., “Write a short story about a farmer waking up by the Nile River. What do they see? What do they do?” Use Copilot Image Creator to help children with their writing.
Students write their short stories. Share a few examples.
I agree Ronan that Khan Academy offers support in many curriculum areas and that is could be a nice gentle introduction to AI for younger learners. Although it often amazes me how confident and competent our young learners are with technology and how new tools are exciting and accessible for them. I would like to explore the other curriculum areas in Khan especially transitions and other social aspects provided by the tools.
This was an excellent module in terms of covering AI tools that can be used in the classroom. It will take me another while to become fully knowledgeable on all the tools and of course with practice and use their application will become easier. I, like many only participants liked the weekly plan for Khan Academy as it supports and motivates children to engage in the new PMC. It was very beneficial to see where the use of AI is directly linked to the PLC also as this is where we can add its use in our planning documents. I will have 6th Class in September and feel that they are a great age to engage with AI tools. I am sure they will have no problem figuring out their use. It will be very important to show the children that fact checking is very important as they often just take it for granted that what they read is true, as we do as adults also. I like the Notebook LM tool also as a way to summarise important information that may come in from the department. Another element of the use of AI tools is how to include it in out Digital Framework, AUP and GDPR policies.
I agree that Gamma would provide an excellent opportunity to create a powerpoint that is tailored made to the needs of the children. The class itself could also use it to present their ‘project work’. Of course what has underpinned this module as in the previous one is to inform the principal or BOM of your intended use of AI and to be aware of our GDPR responsibilities.
The Diffit tool offers lots of scope for implementing a differentiated topic to each student. There are so many ideas in this module it will need lots of going back over to utilise it fully.
There is a huge amount of information provided in this module. Some really good AI tools that I am looking forward to using in 6th class.
Copilot Image Creator really stood out for me. This tool randomly selects a type of writng (poem, letter, story, newspaper article) and gives you a descriptive title, for example write a story about a grey elephant who was lonely. While this is useful it can really limit the children’s creativity. Image creator is much better as it encourages children to be more descriptive and detailed in their writing. This also teaches the children the importance of providing detail in order to create a clearer picture for the reader. I also liked the way it could be used in the opposite way whereby the teacher created the image and children had to create the prompt that led to the generation of the image. Anything that engages the child in creative writing and catches their interest will keep them engaged and will feel less like ‘work’.
I like the way Magic School AI creates a social story that allows for editing and tweaking so it suits a particular child or purpose. I struggled last year with creating social stories in the ASD classroom that were just right for my children – some too wordy, some not enough etc.It is brilliant that what you create in Magic School AI can then be used in TWEE to generate questions and therefore extend learning. I hope to look at these further over the holidays and use in the new academic year.I would agree with Rebecca that AI can provide excellent opportunities to personalize learning and create individual pathways that cater to strengths and weaknesses and help to fill in gaps in learning. AI should be used as a support and can not replace the human interactions that take place so many times between the teacher and student during the normal school day. It is time now to equip ourselves with the necessary skills and confidence to use AI tools.
I have used Google forms in the past to find out if there would be interest in a cycle event that I was hoping to plan. Parents were asked to complete a survey and this was done by the majority promptly. It was easy to set up and results/data was easy to analyse. I like the idea of using Immersive Reader which is readily available with Microsoft Word. This could be a huge support to children that are struggling with reading or have a specific Learning Difficulty. Minecraft is hugely popular and could appeal to the interests of children in the middle classes and could be an excellent way to support their learning. Providing opportunities for children to work in pairs or small groups has been mentioned by both tutors and this would allow children to gain knowledge from each other in terms of using AI and would give them an opportunity to skill share. Mathia X is an AI tool that I would like to learn more about with the intention of using it in the classroom. The video that showed how China is using AI tools in the classroom was worrying as parents did not seem to know where or what their child’s data was being used for. It was also concerning that their child’s concentration or lack of was being monitored and then fed back to parents. Although as one expert said it is difficult to know how accurate this data is. I feel one of the challenges of this approach is how best to maintain the privacy of individuals and how to keep individual data safe. It would also be very important that that the teacher would use age appropriate AI tools and that they would be very knowledgeable on how to use them.
I agree with what Lorraine said about the negativity that has surrounded the use of AI in teaching and learning but I feel that we as teachers can change this by learning about it, learning about it uses and always bbe aware that there are certain ethics that need to be followed in order to use it as an effective and safe tool. We need to be very mindful of protecting the privacy and data of the children in our care. Becoming good at prompt writing will also be a huge support to finding out the exact information that you need or image that you want to create etc. The course also suggests that it is important to provide children with opportunities to learn about and experience Gen AI collaboratively.
It is very telling how fast Generative AI has evolved over the last few years. It is a fast moving and dynamic change to education in Ireland. I have noticed this year in particular how many staff in my school have spoke about it, learned about it and experimented with it. While we seem to be at the experimental stage this course has provided some practical examples and tools to use to incorporate it into our teaching and learning. The correct use of AI can make us more efficient, productive and creative I am looking forward to exploring how I can use this in my 6th class in September. However I feel it would have to have the support of the school management and the Ethics Guidelines from the EU commission would need to underpin and support its use. I like how Gemini works in that it is comprehensive and up to date and I look forward to using Vidnoz AI and Pictory. Toonme.com is also something that might appeal to an older class and support the illustrations of creative writing.
