I agree Darragh Immersive Reader is a resource that could be used with all levels in the Classroom. I also had a look at Mash Plus which creates lessons for all topics. Google forms is a useful tool for administative tasks, I look forward to learning about other such tools to lighten the paperwork side of teachijng

This course has enabled me to become more familiar with the concepts of
AI and all it has to offer. While I was aware of ChatGBT, Khan Academy and Scratch Progammes, I got to learn about Copilot, Gemini and Diffit. I can see myself using more of these AI resources to enhance the teacing and lerning in my classroom.

Part 2: I decided to use a new AI tool when researching a lesson for my class. I signed up and used Magic School. The prompt I used was an SPHE lesson, Irish Curriculum, Senior Infants. To teach Myself and others, topic of Friendship. This is what it produced:

        SPHE Lesson Plan: Friendship
        Class Level: Senior Infants
        Theme: Myself and Others
        Strand: Myself and Others
        Strand Unit: Myself
        Duration: 30-40 minutes

        Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, children will be able to:

        Understand what friendship means.
Identify ways to be a good friend.
Recognize feelings related to friendship (happy, sharing, caring).
Practice simple friendship skills like sharing, listening, and helping.

        Materials Needed:
Storybook about friendship (e.g., “How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends?” or similar)
        Drawing paper and crayons/markers
Friendship word cards (words like share, kind, listen, help)

        Lesson Steps:
        1. Circle Time Discussion (10 mins)

Ask: “What is a friend?” Let children share ideas.
Discuss what makes a good friend (kindness, sharing, listening).
Introduce words related to friendship using word cards and explain each briefly.
        2. Story Time (10 mins)

Read a short story about friendship.
Pause to ask questions: “How did the friends play together?” “What did they do to be kind?”
        Highlight examples of friendship behaviors.
        3. Activity: Friendship Drawing (10 mins)

Ask children to draw a picture of themselves with a friend doing something fun or kind.
Encourage them to share their drawings and explain what friends do in their picture.
        4. Role Play and Practice (5-10 mins)

Act out simple friendship scenarios: sharing toys, helping a friend, saying kind words.
Invite children to practice being a good friend in these situations.

        Assessment:
Listen to children’s ideas about friendship.
        Observe participation in role play.
Review drawings for understanding of friendship concepts.

        Extension Ideas:
Create a friendship chain or wall display with children’s drawings.
Teach a friendship song or rhyme.
Encourage children to practice one kind act with a friend during the week.

          Hi Stacey,

I liked your lesson on the life cycle of the Butterfly- a simple well laid out lesson with clear objectives. I liked the idea of using AI to create SMART targets for IEP. This is a time consuming task that I could become more efficient in.

Having looked at a lot of the GenAI tools that have been suggested in the classroom I was particularly drawn to the Khan kids academy and its use in the classroom .
I will be having Infants in Sept so I know that emotions and social development will be to the forefront . I looked at what was on their app and much of it appealed to me and I will definitely use it . I then asked chat Gpt to use the material available to create a week of  lessons . The response was impressive and I believe will cut down on the work of the teacher providing the right prompts are given .

              Monday – Naming Emotions

App Activity: Watch a story like “How Are You Feeling?”
Discussion: Ask, “How do the characters feel? Have you ever felt that way?”
Follow-up: Children draw a face showing how they feel today.

              Tuesday – Managing Emotions
App Activity: Try a mindfulness or breathing exercise (found in “Circle Time” videos).
Practice: Teach the class “Belly Breathing” with Kodi.
Follow-up: Make a calm-down corner with visual cues from the app.

              Wednesday – Kindness & Friendship
App Activity: Watch a story about sharing or helping a friend.
Discussion: “What does a good friend do?” Write responses together.
Role Play: Children act out friendship scenes.

              Thursday – Problem Solving
App Activity: Story or video where characters resolve a problem together.
Discussion: “What happened? What choices did they make?”
Follow-up: Introduce simple solution cards (“Stop. Think. Choose.”)

              Friday – Reflection & Sharing
App Activity: Free choice SEL story or mindfulness activity.
Group Reflection: “What did we learn this week about feelings?”
Art/Story Time: Draw or tell a story about helping a friend or feeling brave.

                Thanks Mary,

I will be using Copilot creator and Diffit for this school year. This course has opened my eyes to several resources that I never even knew existed. I also liked the idea by Arlene on creating a local history powerpoint using Gamma AI- great ideas on this forum, thanks to everyone.

                  Hi Anne Marie,

Like you I was only familiar with Chat GBT in terms of AI. I am only becoming familiar with all the benefits of AI in my teaching and learning. From this module, the use of Diffit will be a valuable tool going forward in terms of differentiation. Like you I plan to use Gamma AI for powerpoints.

I am new to the whole concept of AI and have only recently dabbled in it following a very informative and interesting conversation beside a princpal in a school in another county on a plane trip home from an Erasmus project. I had was on an Erasmus trip on STEAM, she had just completed a week long Erasmus on AI. She inspired me to learn more and here I am! It was a most interesting encounter She opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of AI and how it can work for me across all aspects of my job. So off I went into Chat GBT world.

Already this module has informed me of the evolution of AI over the past and its not such a recent phenonemen. The possibilities of AI in improving my productivity as a teacher. I liked the introductions to Gemini and Copilot as they were relatively new to me. I learned much from the comparisons of the 3 bots and the importance of how the prompts are phrased.

Another take away for me is to be discerning in my use of all Artificial Intelligence, always check what is returnd from a prompt.

An AI application which I have experience using is Scratch and Scratch JR. As a Senior Infant teacher who loves lego, I can see how children love to work in following designs and constructing items. I have Duplo Coding express lego on my wish list. This is easier to put together duplo lego which can be coded to be manouvered by the app. This ticks many boxes- problem solving, constructing, STEAM and assimilates nicley with the new maths curriculum. I think it is a nice way to introduce youn g children to AI.  In doing so, I hope to promote criical thinking skills as well as teamwork and vitally learning by play and doing.

This module brought many AI tool which I coud use everyday in the classroom. Copilot image creator is a practical tool to encourage children to draw on their use of descrpitive language and adjectives. The better description prompt- the more accuarte the image becomes. Another example of a tool I would like to use in my class is Diffit. To be able to create a text on any topic and pitch it different levels with modified questions is another invaluable resource.

The combination of all these tools, withy less time on planning and creating content will definitely enable me to plan, teach and assess with greater ease going forward and into the future.

At the end of this mo0dule and probably the main reasaon that prompted me to undertake this course is to become more efficient with my time. I hope by becoming more adept with all AI has to offer, I will be able to devote more time to teaching instruction and pupil engagement. This module allowed me to become familiar with platforms other than ChatGBT such as Squirrel, Century and Carnegie.  I liked the suggestion of using leaarner objectives and outcomes  as more specific prompts when using these platforms. This will be of great benefit to me when planning lessons.

The Immersive Reader was another practical tool that I can see myself using in the classroom to enable children to read more effectively.

A challenge of AI in the future is that teaching and learning will become too personalised and that we all, teachers and pupils may lose sight of the power of learning from each other.
