Research Question-How do we as a school reduce our carbon footprint on a daily basis.

This seems like the most relatable for students to deal with.

Firstly I would gather data from students as to how they come to and  from school. The options would be presented in a brainstorming activity and result in a pie chart or bar chart in order to showcase the results. It is very likely that cars would be the overwhelmingly answer here as we are a country school.Hi would then ask students to come up with alternative ways of coming to and from school. There is a school bus however some of these students could walk to the stop instead of being dropped off.The use of bikes and foot would be a help here however I am conscious that this may be more suitable for the older classes.Thos would also educate parents aswell.

The bigger area here is the world in general and there are many fantastic videos out there that can be used to show how we as a race are destroying .This video encapsulates everything

Also the lyrics and video to Earth Song by Micheal Jackson is also very poignant and powerful.

National Geographic is great Nationwide is also very good for more natrional and local issues .News2day is probably the most age appropriate of these and focuses on all news related items including climate change.

Using the Satellite Tracker App, I discovered that five satellites have recently passed over Ireland: BurstCube, Snoopi  the International Space Station (ISS),Kashiwa and Curtis .

BurstCube: BurstCube is designed to detect and analyze gamma-ray bursts. These bursts are the most energetic events in the universe, and BurstCube helps track them to gain insights into their origins and behavior.

Snoopi: This satellite is focused on the cosmos. It’s gathering information  on cosmic rays which helps scientists  have a better understanding  about high-energy particles from space.

International Space Station (ISS): The ISS serves as a space laboratory where astronauts conduct scientific research in microgravity. It supports a wide range of experiments, from biology to materials science, benefiting numerous fields of study.

Kashiwa: Kashiwa focuses on agriculture,It collects data on crops and their current state and conditions of the soil  helping farmers in making informed decisions to improve their crops and of course sustainability

Curtis: Curtis is an Earth observation satellite. It monitors environmental changes, such as deforestation and urban development, providing crucial data for environmental conservation efforts.

These satellites play an important  role in helping  our understanding of space and improving life on Earth through various research and monitoring activities. They are essential in helping scientists improv and advance in this area,

I agree Una that the film Home though informative is not effective as  a resource due to the language used .Definitely believe that certain aspects of the film coupled with age appropriate terminology could be used perhaps in a powerpoint and then a kahoot quiz to assess the knowledge of the students

What a stunning piece of cinematogrpahy. The images are so powerful however I amnot sure the video could be used as a result due to the terminology used however a picture tells a thousand words and some of the imagery here would be very beneficial.

Great Thunbergs Ted talk is just as effective as there are many people tha tcan relate to her.She can narrate the story in w way that is so powerful and thought provking providing an inspiration to those who also suffer from aspergers ODD and selective Mutism.

Some of the images may be upsetting and there are people out there who are genuinely anxious about the future and therefore there needs to be adequate resources available in case of any issues that may arise from watching the video,

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I also agree with the use of proverbs.English is so rich in it s context and I believe that is being lost with the considerable increase in technology and would  be nice to bring back the tradition of the proverbs and use them while covering topics such as weathering and climate.</p>

I agree with setting up the weather station and how there are so many activities that students of different abilities could get involved in depending on their strengths whether that is constructing the station or analysing data.

I  have read “Unravelling STEM: Beyond the acronym of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics” and discovered that there are many things required in order to teach STEM to an acceptable standard. The importance of cross circular is evident here as is the students ability to use technology . The resources as outlined o this module are beneficial to me as a teacher and I believe that I will be able to use the effectively to cover all abilities within the class.Students as a rsult will have a meaningful understanding of weather an climate both of which are so important at this time . Setting up a weather station would be something that the whole school would benefit from perhaps locatoing it beside our polytunnel.

Equipment such as  rain gauge, thermometer, and anemometer for the children in my class to use would be ordered but a whole school activity can be done for this, as it is relevant to all. Junior and Senior can record the weather on a Monday,1st and 2nd on Tuesday 3rd and 4th on Wednesday and 5th and 6th on Thursday with the special classes doing Friday.
