I agree, I had no idea there was SOOO much to explore and yes, at times it can appear very daunting. Of course, there are always those who are excellent at IT and the ones we always approach when in doubt. However, my confidence has definitely grown over the years and taking it little by little, I do believe I am gaining good knowledge and now have the confidence to share ideas with others.

I made several presentations, Yu can also get a presentation off twinkl and assign to group so they can edit it themselves, I used to do this with history posters to do with the famine, WW2, Easter rising etc.

Nuacht an Lae ó Rang a sé wa sanother good template on twinkl..made it look very professional when pupils had edited and added in their own information.

Google forms is an excellent way to gather information, especially with the older pupils who may not be as forthcoming speaking about topics such as bullying or behaviours in the yard, how my teacher can help me etc.

Totally agree, Collaboration is so important, We value it with our colleagues and appreciate being given the time to work together so it should be the same for our pupils.

Totally agree. Google Classroom has changed the way I view projects and assignments in my class. I feel the pupils have benefited reatly, differentiation is not as evident and nice for the pupils to shine in this area. The only fault I have is we use ipads so its difficult for typing. chrome books would probably be better in this instance.

I really like this idea where the children make their own questions because like you said, they spend so much time answering other pre determined questions…nice to give them a variety. Self assessment also very beneficial plus teacher feedback is quick.

I use Google Classroom often pupils in my class have access to ipadson a regular basis, It is timetabled but often if we are completing a project/ research the pupils will get htem twice/ three times a week. The cross curriculur links are excellent as well as the improvement in IT skills. It is great to see their confidence improve in using variouos tools and empowering them to show one another when they can do something special. It has really improved how I set work and assess students. One of the main advantages is the extra engagement from students – they enjoy using the platform and like being able to access everything in one place.

Assessing and grading feels like less of a chore for me, It helps me give clear and fair feedback. I also find project work works really well with Google tools like Docs and Slides, and I can check in on their progress as they go and provide instant feedback (comment or voice note)

For Confirmation prep this year, it was really useful for posting links to to support lessons. too.

Regarding SSE, Google classroom has been a game changer in gathering information and evaluating results.SSE aims to support reflection and collaboration among colleagues as a way of working to support whole school improvement. GC promotes both when used effectively.

I have used Google Workspace for a few years now…and would have considered myself as fairly confident in using it..Google Classroom activities with pupils (slides and docs), Drive and docs(collaboaration with staff). Calendar (sharing events with staff). Forms (SSE…surveys). However, there is a whole area of resources which I will be bringing with me after completing this course. .

A number of years ago (pre covid), our school received school support from PDST in the area of digital technology..creating digital portfolios as assessment was our objective. This was highly beneficial, we had already seen the benefits of using it with staff in policy formation, plans, timetables etc.I have since moved schools and would love to bring this info to my new school as a new set of ipads have been purchased and I feel they are not being utilized.

In the past when Ive set assigments for my pupils, I have provided feedback by leaving a comment or providing a short voice note. Pupils responded so positively to this and can make the changes instantly…the day of writing/ correcting in red pen is long gone! This is so much more effective. Also, presentatons can be shown on the whiteboard to highlight good practices or if children need to present in front of the class…this will stand to them when it comes to secondary school.

I am really looking forward to exploring other areas such as Google Sheets and GradeBook. I think these will add to the value of Google Workspace in the classroom. I also think they will encourage our pupils.. and create a student-centred approach.

After reading  D. Wiliam’s paper, it’s obvious it is so important to use assessment as a tool for learning, not just of learning.

This piece encouraged me to reflect on my own teacher practises, children must be encouraged to take ownership of their own progress and become reflective so they learn from their mistakes. Feedback is instant and so, relevant as a result.

Recently, we completed a survey using Google Forms to gather information from all stakeholders re wellbeing in our school. This allowed us to gather information which will inform our Bí Cinealta policy and allows us to identify areas for improvement or even identify areas we are working well in.

Looking ahead, I plan to use Google Forms more frequently for short check ins with my class. As stated previously, feedback is instant. Kahoot and Blooket will also be used as fun, easy to use interactive tools in the classroom. All of these should provide me with an overview of where students are at which will make assessment an integral part of school life.

After reading and evaluatiing  Redesigning Education: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century, I am confident  I can develop  and empower my pupils to promote and  build important 21st Century skills—especially collaboration and problem-solving.

Love the idea of asking the children to redesign the peincipal’s office/ school library. Creativity, problem solving,  mathematical skills, collaboration, critical thinking will all be required. No doubt, conflict and compromise will crop up too as they will all have varying ideas. Google Docs could be used to work collaboratively. Google Sheets to keep track of their spending and compare options.Ths type of activity will encourage them to apply their skills to the world around them…what its all about really, it makes it relevant for them. Using A1 image tools, they can bring their ideas to life, the children will love this notion and may spark an interest in some pupils for engineering/ architecture in the future. Spatial awareness and budgeting in maths will also be promoted in the area of maths..all 21st century skills that are required for the workforce in todays modern world.

Love this idea of George going on adventures. Imagine the craic trying to get him to do something cool (parents not kids). Brill idea with the QR code and involving parents, this sounds really good!

Ive taught mostly in senior classes and recently found google classroom to be a great platform for everyone involved. The pupils don’t feel they are “working” once they’re typing and using the ipad, assessment is instant and projects can be completed individually or in groups. GC allows the pupils to create their own digital portfolio which is very effective. Im not sure it would be so effective in the junior end of the school but really like the idea of google sheets for younger pupils.  The fact that it can be so readily shared with other teachers / SET team makes it very appealing.

SSE: this digital data can be very effective in promoting instant, up to date information for both pupls and teachers. It would save time also, the fact that its so accessible for all.  Teamwork could be promototed and more evident that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet.

When I was in 6th Class, my pupils used GC to create Nuacht I Rang a sé. They would collaborate , write a few sentences as Gaeilge and inport a pic. News might include match results, weather, tours etc. the presentation would be shared with other teachers and the groups would visit other classes to present their news, great way to promote irish, group work so differentiation could be easily completed. Kids loved it!

                            .
