Khan academy does indeed look like an excellent resource to support the teaching of not only maths but other subjects too. I am interested in the cost associated with it or is there a free version which would be adequate??
AI is definitely changing how we teach and how we learn. I feel there really does need to be a whole school approach to the use of AI and that there also needs to be more cpd for teachers in the area.
I think scratch is an excellent resource to introduce the children to the world of programming. It can be easily integrated with other curriculum areas scratch is fun, visual and engaging. Working in pairs children could create a game, a movie or a story which they could then share with the rest of the class. There are a lot of resources available on how to use scratch which are extremely useful.
Padraig I agree that these AI tools are providing us as teachers with the ability to present engaging, visual learning experiences in the classroom. So many useful tools out there as shown in module 3, so that we can create suitable resources in a time efficient manner- invaluable
This module has highlighted so many useful AI tools and presented me with many practical examples of how they can be used in the classroom. Reading coach is one which I would like to try in the new school year with some of the children who I support in set. I think it will be very beneficial in the set setting for struggling readers, it will be something new and modern, which will help with motivation. The AI feedback will be something which I feel children will take on board.
Magic school AI has huge potential- more so than I was aware of. I have spent a lot of time in set creating social stories so their social story creator is one which I will definitely make use of. I like how they can be created and then also adapted to suit. I hadn’t heard of Twee before this module and I am amazed by the possibilities of creating questions based on text or video another AI tool which will be very useful in the classroom.

It is making education more personalised, it can assist us in identifying learning gaps, give us real time feedback, enhance our teaching strategies by giving us interactive engaging content.
Now more than ever before digital literacy for both teachers and children is a must!
One of the tools introduced in this module which I would be interesting in introducing to 6th class is search coach, an important one to teach the skill of efficient searches and evaluating of results.

I had not considered until now that the potential is ther to use them as a form of assessment which would of course be more engaging and time efficient. I also wasn’t aware until now that google forms was an Ai tool!
Like other participants I haven’t used immersive reader in the past but will certainly be using it in the future. Learning lots so far in this course!!
This module shows how Ai can help us to be more efficient with our time as teachers. I have spent long periods of time searching for information/ideas/presentations etc online, and then more time adapting these so that they were suitable for my class. Ai tools can certainly save time – from planning to differentiation to assessment and more. I do feel however, that more cpd is important in this area so that we can become more proficient in using the Ai tools out there.
For me, I like how Ai tools can create differentiated lessons/activities in an instant(provided the prompt is of high quality) this will be extremely useful in multigrade settings.

when you mention embracing ai tools, a colleague of mine comes to mind straight away, who is doing just that and in doing so is he is enhancing his teaching methodologies thus improving teaching and learning in the classroom. Technology has grown rapidly in the last 25 years- I am sure that in Ireland today each classroom has the use of an interactive board.
As you rightly state children have access to and are using ai outside of school(maybe unaware and of little understanding of what it is), we as educators are in a position to guide them to use these tools in a responsible manner.
This course has given me a list of tools to use in the new school year( and in others areas of life) I had thought before commencing this course that I was kind off up to date in the world of ai, since I had discovered chatgpt(recommended by a colleague) . I have used chatgpt to assist me in the task of planning and writing smart targets mostly, However, this course has opened my eyes to a much bigger world of ai tools that are out there and the possibilities of using them in the classroom. these tools will be valuable going forward.
I have used scratch when I was in the mainstream classroom, now in set I look forward to using the Microsoft 365 learning accelerators especially reading coach and speaker coach.
lesson plan( while writing this lesson I have a particular child in mind, who struggles with literacy , difficult to motivate and with limited interests)
Subject: English-Descriptive writing
Objectives
use farm related vocabulary in descriptive writing
use the ai tool Dall-e to create an image to accompany your piece of writing
lesson
using an ai generated farm scene, chuild describes what they see in the image in detail- we could record this on board.
writing-child is encouraged to compose a piece of text-prompt -imagine you are on the farm for a day what do you do from sunrise to sunset? Record
using the text composed by the child we will enter it into Dall-e to create an image.
with all the ai tools introduced in this course there really are endless ways in which to use them in the classroom, I look forward to sharing them with others on return to school.
Clare
I totally agree with your statement of this being one of the best courses you have done in a while, as the holidays were flying by and face to face didn’t work for me this year I decided on this one as we are planning to work on our digital literacy next year. I am so glad I chose this one, as you said we will be supercharged with the assistance of ai, making teaching and learning more accessible, more enjoyable by enhancing our teaching strategies.
