<p style=”text-align: center;”>One inquiry-based activity I would use in my classroom is exploring why the Moon appears to change shape. The children in my class had so much fun with this. I would begin by showing the children pictures of the Moon at different stages. I introduced this by showing the video from youtube: phases of the moon/science for kids which was so informative and kid friendly. I then took a torch to represent the Sun and a ball to represent the Moon. The children could move the ball around while seeing how the light changes the visible part of it. Before each position, we tried to make some predictions about what the moon would look like next. This activity is very suitable for children with ASD because it is visual, hands-on, and follows a clear routine. I provided clear visual instructions, modelled each step and allow extra processing time. The activity encourages pupils to observe, ask questions, make predictions, and explain what they notice in a way that suits their communication needs. I believe this approach helps children understand that science is about exploring ideas and discovering answers through observation rather than simply memorising facts. I think this activity shows children that science is about being curious, trying things out, and learning from what they see.</p>
