Development Education is essential in helping students understand global issues like inequality, climate change, and human rights. It helps to encourage critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. These are skills that are increasingly important in today’s world. I believe it’s about more than just teaching facts; it’s about helping students see themselves as part of a global community and being able to make a change.

In my own teaching, I would look for opportunities to connect topics to real-world issues, encourage discussion and debate, and involve students in practical projects that have both local and global relevance.

To encourage colleagues,  we could have  themed assemblies, cross-curricular projects, or using international days as a focus. Sharing ideas and successes through staff meetings could help build momentum for a school really focused on development education.  I thoroughly enjoyed the insightful article.
