      Hi Claire,

I think you have used an AI tool (Gamma) very effectively in this lesson. It really shows that AI tools can really take time off lesson preparation for teachers.

        Reflection:

I can really visualise how the use of the AI tools will aid both me as the class teacher and my students and their learning experience. We have gained practical insight as to how to use the various tools. It is brilliant to have such knowledge going forward as things such as creating powerpoints, worksheets and assessment tasks can be very time consuming as a teacher. If there are tools out there that can help with this, it is important that we use them. Of course, whilst always keeping a critical eye and ensuring the content is ethical and suitable.

        Lesson:

        Subject: Literacy  (6th class)

        Theme: Persuasive Writing

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be enabled to

        • recognise the features of persuasive writing
        • critically evaluate various advertisements
        • create their own advertisement using Canva

        Introduction:

Explore what advertising is and how persuasive writing is used in advertisements . Use visual advertisements and videos on the whiteboard to explore this. Discuss the features of these. I would use Gamma to create this presentation.

        Development:

In small groups of 3-4 critically evaluate a number of given advertisements. Teacher will float and conference between groups to elicit.

In pairs create an advertisement for a given item using Canva. various pairs will be asked to present their advertisements and its features.

Conclusion: Discuss what we have learned.  The students will then complete a quiz made on Co-Pilot through the Quizziz  website using their ipads.

        Assessment:

        Teacher observation

        Conferencing

        Teacher designed task

          Hi Thomas,

I agree that SESE lessons including History lessons in particular could be made far more engaging by using AI tools. I think this would capture the attention of the students and would make the content memorable and engaging for them.

I will hope to introduce Khan Academy kids to my students. As I am working in a special class, I believe this is one of the more suitable tools for me to utilise with my cohort of students. It would work well as the learning experiences can be tailored to the very specific needs of the students in the class.

I would use it in this way:

Introduction: A small group lesson on the overall concept

Development: Students working on a task suited to their specific ability with 1-1 support from the teacher at some point to assess how they are getting on. (class of 6 pupils so this is possible).

Assessment: Use the tasks given and teacher observation to assess how the students got on and where they may need further support or if they require a further challenge.

Follow up with individual morning work tasks to reinforce learning and develop skills.

              Part 1:
From September, I intend on using Gamma to aid me in creating presentations for my class. I will ensure my prompts are detailed so the powerpoint created will be suitable to my learners. Furthermore, I will use Diffit also both for planning and assessment purposes. Asa special class teacher, the various needs of my class are very diverse and it can be very time consuming to differentiate to meet the needs.

              Part 2:

As can be seen the tools outlined in this module if implemented in the classroom can transform future teaching, learning and assessment in a very positive manner if used correctly and in a critical manner. Ensuring as educators we are always checking content and ensuring it is meeting our learning objectives. I could see myself using the Magic Schools tools to create resources on different areas such as life skills which there isn’t much resources readily available and this is an area I usually spend many hours creating resources in for my students based on their varying complex needs (special class in a special school). Furthermore, the co-pilot image generator could be utilised for many different areas of the curriculum and could suit varying needs based on one prompt. This will save me time as a teacher in having to look for a suitable resources needed to strengthen my learners understanding of a particular topic (for example, kitchen safety etc). I also think Microsoft reading coach could be very beneficial for some students and could transform reading based tasks for the students in a positive manner along with cutting down preparation time for the teacher.

                Hi  Claire,

I completely agree with your post. Especially what you said regarding differentiation and how the tools can be helpful in this regard for teachers. I will definitely use Diffit.

                  Hi Emma,

I had never heard of immersive reader either before engaging with this module. I think this is something I will definitely use in my own classroom in the future. I also agree with your point that access to IT in schools could be a barrier.

Having engaged with module 2, I believe there are many different ways that I can utilise AI to transform the teaching and learning experiences in my classroom. However, as I am a special education teacher working in a special school, my implementation will be very different to some of the methods promoted in this module as many of my students face challenges with skills such as reading, writing and other functional skills. Therefore, I will use AI in a different manner such as to gain ideas for lessons, to differentiate tasks and so on rather than for the students to engage with as a task as this would be too complex for my cohort of students and there needs.

Having said this, I can see the many benefits that AI could bring to both the teaching and learning experiences. For example, it could design activities for students to help aid them in reaching their specific goals on their IEP’s. Furthermore, this could save me time as a teacher. However, it would be very important that all content is thoroughly checked by myself and looked at with a critical eye to ensure it is helping my students achieve their goals. Furthermore, the tools could be utilised to create specific work tasks that suit the specific levels of the students or a particular skill they are working on. It can be challenging in a special school as no books etc are utilised so majority of things are teacher made which can be very time consuming.

                      Hi April,

I completely agree with your point above that we must not loose our ability to think for ourselves. Personally I feel we should use AI tools to enhance our own ideas for our classrooms. As class teachers, we know our class best and what will suit them and provide them with the optimum benefit. We must ensure to write meaningful prompts that will lead to optimum benefit for our learners.

As a special class teacher, from engaging with the content of this module it is very clear that AI can enhance both teacher and learner experiences.

Throughout the content, I had various moments where I thought of different ways that I could use AI within my own practice. I feel that from September onwards I will begin using AI to create engaging resources that suit the very specific and wide ranging needs of my students. I believe AI could enhance both the planning of lessons, the creation of resources and the assessment of skills learned. However, it will be very important that the prompts are well written, well thought out and suit the specific needs of my learners. Furthermore, I will ensure to keep a critical eye and always  ensure that what I am creating is enhancing the learning experience for my students.

I could see myself using AI to create resources like social stories, picture based activities and to enhance my students learning of life skills which is essential in any special education classroom.
