In my local area, sustainability is practiced through various initiatives, such as community gardens, recycling programs, and local farmer’s markets. These efforts not only promote environmental awareness but also encourage residents to make eco-friendly choices. To engage children from the community, I would create interactive programs that connect them with these sustainable practices.

Organizing field trips to local gardens or farms would allow kids to see sustainability in action while learning about the benefits of growing their own food. Workshops focusing on recycling crafts can teach children the importance of reducing waste creatively. Additionally, starting a “green ambassador” program in schools, where students can undertake sustainability projects, would empower them to take actionable steps in their own neighborhoods.

By fostering hands-on experiences, I hope to instill a sense of responsibility and inspire the next generation to prioritize sustainable living in their daily lives

Seafood offers numerous benefits that can positively impact my school life. Rich in high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins, seafood is crucial for brain health and cognitive function. Consuming fish like salmon or mackerel can improve memory and concentration, which is invaluable during long study sessions and exams.

Additionally, seafood is known to reduce stress and anxiety levels, thanks to its nutrient profile. This could be particularly beneficial during busy school periods or when facing challenging projects. Eating seafood also promotes overall health, helping me maintain energy throughout the day, which is essential for staying active in extracurricular activities.

Moreover, integrating seafood into my diet encourages healthier eating habits and diversifies my meals, making lunchtime more enjoyable. Sharing meals with friends can also foster social connections, improving my school experience. Overall, the inclusion of seafood in my diet not only supports my physical and mental well-being but also contributes to a more balanced and fulfilling school life.

There are 3 really important ways you can apply this to your teaching and learning. The ARC is such a fantastic resource there is countless ways but I focused on the below.

Differentiated Instruction: The ARC lessons emphasize tailoring instruction to meet diverse learners’ needs. You can implement differentiated strategies in your classroom by creating multiple pathways for students to engage with material. This could include offering varied assignments based on student readiness, interests, or learning profiles.
Use of Technology: Incorporating technology is a key aspect of ARC lessons. Explore using interactive platforms, educational apps, or online resources that can enhance student engagement and provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate understanding.
Active Learning: The ARC approach encourages active participation from students. You can apply this by incorporating more hands-on activities, group discussions, and problem-solving tasks in your lessons, allowing students to take charge of their learning.

Growing up with a background in dairy farming you really do not think about life by the sea much as you become so preoccupied with what happens on land. The reference of the Goldilocks climate got me laughing as we have struggled alot lately with predicting weather and how it impacts our day to day. I see the benefits the west of Ireland could get from a thriving aquaculture, it supports earnings and tourism. Places like Killary shown in the module are special places and they need to be explored more. Aquaculture is the real agriculture in the west of Ireland. Its beauty needs to be harnessed for our youth to want to stay and make a living that becomes both lucrative and rewarding. Only then will this industry take off the way it should.

This module was absolutely brilliant. The level of inter-activeness and learning involved in the HUB truck brought to schools is fantastic, I could see older classes especially gaining so much from that. I also loved learning about the Salmon, I have a junior class this year who love learning about animals and I will certainly take stuff from what I learned here.
