July 3, 2025 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Module 2: Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education #227931Only just discovered immersive reader on this course and am excited to use it in September esp in my learning support role with my pupils with dyslexia and my EFL pupil. I know they will enjoy it too.
Looking forward to embracing AI in my classroom in September. Using AI in primary classrooms can bring a wide range of benefits for students, teachers, and even parents. Here’s a breakdown of the most significant advantages:Personalized LearningAI can adapt content to each student’s level, helping struggling learners catch up and allowing advanced learners to stay challenged.Tools like adaptive math or reading programs adjust in real-time to student performance.Immediate FeedbackStudents get instant responses on quizzes or practice exercises, promoting faster learning and correction of mistakes.Improved EngagementInteractive tools, such as AI-powered games or tutors, can make learning more engaging and enjoyable.
Accessibility SupportAI can assist students with disabilities through tools like text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and visual aids.
Supports multilingual learners with translation and language.Hi Clare… agreed we are all nervous to embrace AI as an educational aid in our classrooms but having only completed 2 modules of this course I understand how it can be revolutionary and used properly an amazing tool.

Some of the changes observed locally in Ireland…climate change…Warmer Winters and Hotter Summers: Average temperatures have risen, with warmer winters and hotter summersbecoming more common. While this might seem beneficial in some cases, it has major consequences for agriculture, which is a key sector of the Irish economy.Changing Seasons: Traditional growing seasons are shifting, affecting crop yields, livestock health, and food security. For example, warmer temperatures can lead to earlier springs but also greater risk of droughts in the summer months.Increased Rainfall: Ireland has witnessed more frequent and intense rainfall, which has led to flooding in various regions. Urban areas are particularly vulnerable to stormwater runoff.More Storms: Ireland is seeing stronger storms, with higher winds and heavier rainfall. This puts pressure on the country’s emergency services, agriculture, and infrastructure.
School friendly actions to make the world a better place…Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Promote community-wide recycling programs, composting, and reducing the consumption of single-use plastics.
Zero-Waste Stores: Support local zero-waste businesses that allow people to buy bulk items without packaging.
Upcycling Projects: Organize community events where people can swap items or turn old materials into new products (e.g., old furniture into new art pieces or useful items). Please read second part of this post…true story in our school. And makes our profession so rewarding when we get pupils like I mentioned. I will follow this pupils progress closely.
Resettlement Programme
Meath County Council is currently participating in Ireland’s Resettlement Programme, which is being co-ordinated by the Office of Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP), Department of Justice & Equality.
The Resettlement Programme is designed to offer protection to persons who have fled their country of origin, and sought protection in another country. The Department of Justice & Equality has responsibility for making arrangements for the transfer of resettled refugees to Ireland, identifies and prepares receiving communities, and coordinates arrangements for the long term integration of the resettled refugees. Local Authorities have been asked to fulfil a coordination role at local level, including the provision of housing supports and the facilitation of local Interagency Working Groups. The role of the Working Group is to ensure that the required services are available at a local level when refugees are resettled within a county.
Meath County Council is one of a number of Local Authorities assisting with the programme during the period 2018-2019.
In order to ensure the successful resettlement of families into local communities, Resettlement Support Services, which are funded by the European Union Asylum, Migration & Integration Fund via the Department of Justice & Equality, are provided to assist with their resettlement and in meeting their needs for the first year.
A pupil came to our school this year. 12 years old. From Afghanistan. Arrived in Ireland on a container with his younger brother. No parents or other family…he witnessed them shot and ran…strangers put him on the container. He was found on the side of the road in a town outside Dublin…homeless, hungry etc. a lovely family fostered him and brother…he had no English. He arrived in our school in sixth class. He had never been to school before. Omg what a success story he is!!!! Fluent English now, made so many friends, loves his foster family, our school and everything Ireland has to offer. He will never return and I know he is destined for huge success in his future..so bright, hard working and ambitious for the future. I have never seen a child as driven. We all loved him and were so sad to see him off to secondary school.

Hi Colm, enjoyed your response to module 1.
Hi Claire, totally agree with point made. Thank you.
Typical example of gender stereotyping I have observed in classrooms…..Boys may be asked to move furniture or take out the bins (seen as strong), while girls may be asked to tidy up or help younger children (seen as nurturing).
There are far reaching effects of gender stereotyping esp in classroom. Here are only some examples.
Limits Self-Expression: Children may feel unable to pursue interests outside expected gender roles (e.g., boys wanting to dance, girls wanting to code).
Influences Aspirations: Stereotypes can shape children’s ideas about future careers or subjects they think are “for them.”
Affects Confidence: Girls may underestimate their abilities in STEM; boys may struggle to express emotions or seek help.
Hi, enjoying the module and forum so far. This is such an important topic in primary schools .Global Citizenship Education in primary schools focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that empower students to:
Understand global issues (e.g., poverty, climate change, inequality).
Respect cultural diversity.
Develop empathy and a sense of responsibility.
Take action to make the world more equitable and sustainable.
UNESCO defines GCE as aiming to “empower learners of all ages to assume active roles, both locally and globally, in building more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies.”These are some of the activities I have initiated in our school . It’s a start!
Pen Pal Programs: Connecting with students in other countries.
Global Fair: Students present different cultures, foods, and traditions.
Classroom Debates: On topics like “Should everyone have access to clean water?”
Art Projects: Expressing hopes for a better world.
