I really like the presentation you created with Gamma. It looks really engaging and fun for children. I love the idea of playing interactive games created using Gamma – matching and spot the difference games would be brilliant for this topic. I can’t wait to use Gamma going forward.

        Lesson: The Famine
        Subject: History
        Learning Objectives:
        • Become familiar with the aspects of the everyday lives of the people in Ireland during the famine
        • Understand the impact of the famine on the lives of people at the time
        Lesson:
Introduction using a visual prompt – an Irish famine cottage – class discussion and questioning to elicit children’s prior knowledge
        Main Activity:
Children work in groups using ipads and Microsoft Copilot to research key questions. Each group works on a key question for example: what was life like for a child during the famine?, what caused the famine?, what did a lot of people have to do as a result of the famine? – teacher is circulating to support and guide groups during this time
Each group shares the answer to their question with the class – class discussions based on these questions and answers.
        Assessment:
Pupils complete a Quizizz quiz to check and assess their learning.

Hi Laura, I love the idea of introducing Scratch Junior to the Infants. As I will be teaching in Infants next year I would love to do this as we have access to school ipads. I think the idea that children can grasp the basic programming concepts without needing reading fluency is great as reading fluency is still only emerging in Infants. I love the idea of creating animations and stories and I think children would find it very engaging and enjoyable. I am looking forward to introducing this to my class next school year.

Scratch is a programme I used a few years ago but haven’t made use of since then and is one I’d love to start using again. From my use of Scratch I found it an easy way to introduce children to coding and found it accessible and enjoyable. I think the step by step process of Scratch is really beneficial for developing children’s logical thinking and developing their problem solving skills. In the beginning I would give children time to play around with the different tools and blocks of code so they can see what is possible with Scratch. I think this would give all children an opportunity to access Scratch at their own level and to not feel under pressure straight away. Once children are more familiar with the different tools we could then start to follow the ready made lesson plans. The challenges could be used for children who are finding Scratch easier to use and this differentiates to ensure everyone is access at a level suitable to their ability. I think children would really enjoy Scratch and this is one I am excited to get back to using.

Absolutely Annette, I too love the idea of using Copilot Image Creator to enhance and support children’s writing. I think the idea of showing children the image first and asking them to write a descriptive prompt is a great idea. I think it would be really engaging for children and would definitely add enjoyment to their learning also.

Gamma is one of the tools that I am excited to try in the coming school year. Usually creating presentations takes quite some time which makes it more challenging to continuously create new ones for different themes and topics. Using Gamma would significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create presentations, as I love using them with my classes and find they are good for introducing new topics. I think tools like this are so valuable in terms of the use of teacher’s time and would facilitate teacher’s to spend more time on other areas also. I also really like the idea of using Copilot and think it would really fun and engaging for children. I think it could be really beneficial to support children’s descriptive writing, so they can see what image is created and as a result see what areas they need to be more specific in. I think it would really support children who find creative writing more challenging and would scaffold their engagement in the writing process. These are just two of the many tools identified in this module that I am excited to use in my teaching.

I agree that the use of Immersive Reader would be such a beneficial resource and that it is something that could be mastered by the child themselves through working with the class teacher and SET. I think this would have such a positive impact for children. I also think Minecraft Education would be loved by children. A lot of children play Minecraft at home and I can only imagine their excitement if they were to see it used in school!

I would really like to make use of Immersive Reader going forward in my classroom. I really like how this is so inclusive of all levels and supports all children with the facilities to change text size, spacing, etc. and also read the text aloud to children. This is something I haven’t used before but it would be so beneficial in supporting children who are struggling with reading. I also like using Google forms and this is something we use widely across our school. It is great to make quick quizzes for revision and for homework on different topics. I use these in the Infant classroom and children choose words with the different sounds that we are learning. We also use this on a wider school level to collect survey responses of children and parents for different things such as wellbeing and Bí Cineálta. I also think the Minecraft Education Edition would be very appealing for children as a lot of children even in the younger classes love the game. It could be used across different curricular areas and for both learning and assessment.

Hi Rina, I definitely agree that I too was uncertain about the use of AI in our schools. I think the use of AI will definitely support learner engagement and will also enhance learning through digital means. I also agree that it is very important we don’t solely rely on AI tools and is important we still lead teaching and learning ourselves and use AI tools as a support.

Like many others I too was nervous of the use of AI in our classrooms. From this module I can see the positives of the use of AI in terms of how it can be used to benefit our teaching and learning. I think the use of AI can support teachers in being more creative and efficient in a more timely manner. The idea that these resources can be created so quickly is so beneficial as teacher’s to do list is never ending and this means we can use our time more efficiently. I also think the use of AI can be so beneficial in terms of assessment. The ability to create checklist, rubrics so quickly is brilliant rather than tediously creating them step by step ourselves which can take so much time.
