      Technology is needed in every classroom and should be in plentiful supply. Grants and funding for this should be increased as it can be difficult to access technologies at times due to demand and timetabling issues

        Dragon was used with a student I had with cerebral palsy.It was not suitable for him because his speech was unclear.  Use of SETT tool could have prevented this

          The start of this module began with a reference to ‘Maslow before Bloom’ which really solidifies and reinforces the fact that there is no on size fits all when it comes to helping students to learn . Universal design for learning is the way forward in our classrooms. I am mainly working with 4th and 5th class students so there is a lot from module 5 I would use.  I would use Speaker Coach and Microsoft coach with the 5th class students to assist with project work. I would install the open dyslexia font and the Google workspace  cloze it extension to assist with literacy and writing. I have used Kahoot on numerous occasions for literacy , numeracy and SESE. I am eager to use flipgrid to create topic discussion points and all of the technologies whereby students work with videos and presentations and I can edit them, add in questions and so on . I currently have canva but I had not discovered half of the different functions it is capable of. These will enhance learning for students and make learning more interactive and appealing. I know ill use more of the tools from this course  than I mentioned above.

          The Inclusive education framework  focuses on School Development Planning, and emphasises the importance of promoting inclusive, individualised, and evidence-informed practice,.   I believe the resources and adaptations mentioned above would be inclusive and meet the requirements of an inclusive curriculum. I am looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues this school year and bringing all this knowledge to the table

              Pupil voice is vital when using SETT framework. How they feel about a particular assistive technology will be a huge factor . It is important to get their input about how they feel they are doing and if they find a particular support helpful

                  The SETT framework is a great facility that assists all those working with a student with disabilities to make decisions regarding what services or assistive technologies will foster their educational success, The acronym of Student , Environment , Tasks and tools help you to really focus in on exactly what is needed. You first look at what the student needs to have to be able to learn, then you look at where the learning will take place, you discuss the tasks you want them to complete and then decide what tools will be most effective. Factors such as ease of use, practicality, size and cost also need to be considered when making a decision. The students willingness to use the tech must also be considered.

                  The plan really helped me to pinpoint exactly what I wanted to work on with the student and how I would go about it. I chose to work on maths skills with a 5th class student as I love Onenote now and cant wait to start using it with the Maths function. I think students can lack confidence when it comes to their ability in Maths and one note could really help to reduce anxiety and help with revision. It also creates a link with home as it can be done anywhere .  SETT is a really structured way to plan for assistive technology decisions and it helps me to take a step back  and make a more student centred decision.

                        Part 1

                        I designed an activity using Microsoft powerpoint. It is for a 2nd class student who has difficulty remembering long vowel sounds in words . I called it Long vowel detective. There is one slide for each long vowel with four words to choose from underneath. The child must select the correct word to place beside the vowel sound. I also included audio of each sound . The lesson can be extended by student using dictate to list to name other words with ee sound and add them to correct slide . Further follow up could be to insert pictures of long vowel sound words.

                        Part 2

                        The Cosán framework is great in that it makes people aware that teachers are lifelong learners and are striving to improve their teaching methodologies constantly. We as teachers are very aware that students learning can only be improved and enhanced by the quality of teachers learning. The world we live in is constantly changing and we need to be prepared. Use of assistive technology and all forms of tech has increased hugely in recent years for example. CPD helps us to do this as it builds on our professional autonomy and sets out the standards that guide teacher learning.                           This year my school switched over from google to Microsoft  and I am delighted to be able to use what I have learned here when I return to school in September.  I must confess that I never knew the numeric keys could be set up as a substitute for the mouse.  Neither was I aware of the existence of sticky keys, filter keys or toggle keys. If I had, I know of one pupil who would have benefitted this year.  I have used google lens , but never used Microsoft lens . I will be working with older pupils this year and I think it will be particularly helpful with them as I can use it with immersive reader for large chunks of text. Immersive reader has so many amazing functions that give students the autonomy to work and guide their own learning. The ability to translate text into other languages is fantastic for EAL children and the picture dictionary adds another layer of support. It is great that so much of these supports are free.

                          Immersive reader breaks down barriers to reading and writing by offering a range of accessibility features that cater to diverse learning needs and is a great asset in SET. My own daughter is dyslexic and used the line focus and contrast tools to help her. The speech to text was also helpful for her. It’s important to assess what each child needs before determining what assistive technology to offer. However, immersive reader is so versatile that there is a good chance of success for many using it

                            Yes, I agree . Some students with certain speech difficulties can become frustrated when the dictation app doesn’t understand or misinterprets what they are saying. Hopefully new tech may sort this

                              I agree too. The SETT tool is fantastic. I had a student with cerebral palsy a few years ago who arrived in my class with the same tech he had been using the previous year. His speech was affected by his condition . The speech to text tool he used could not understand him so was not of any benefit . SETT tool clearly wasn’t used in this case.

                                Assistive technologies undoubtedly are key to the enhancement of learning and embedding of digital technologies into teaching, learning and assessment.  They have great potential in all these areas.  I really feel that they help to level the playing field so that all students get equitable access to teaching and learning . It also makes it easer for teachers to access pupils strengths and any areas they struggle with.  As teachers, we are probably unaware of the low tech assistance we give our students every day . I regularly use mini whiteboards and a visual timetable in my room.   I would also have used adaptive keyboards as a medium tech alternative for a vision impaired student but I would love to utilise audio books but I don’t have the facility to do so currently.  It is very important to use the SETT  framework when choosing which high tech AT to use with a pupil  and their needs need to be at the forefront of our minds when choosing.  One needs to consider how easy it is to use, what if any, level of training may be needed, whether the student will be comfortable using it , and if it is suitable for the environment in which it will be used. Financial considerations can often be an obstacle for schools

                                With regard to the digital learning framework, I would like to focus on Domain 1 from Primary teaching and learning

                                ‘Pupils demonstrate the knowledge, skills and understanding required by the primary curriculum’  I want to enable pupils to guide their own learning with the support of digital technologies and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of whatever curriculum objective is being taught .
