Scrathh is something I have used in my teaching in the UAE previously. In a world where technology is surrounding us more and more each day, coding opens up so many opportunities for children going forward. Having fundamental coding skills can set up children for their future ambitions and is a valuable life skill.

It is important to start small and learn the basics well, ensuring the children do not get overwhelmed. Introducing paired programming can work well allowing students to speak to each other and reason as to why they are completing certain tasks. Show and tell can also be effective, allowing students to demonstrate their work in front of their peers, if they are able to explain what they did to their classmates it is a great way for teachers to assess their learning!

There are so many ways in which Magic School could be used within the classroom setting both in an active lesson and in preparing for lessons. It can provide a teacher with lesson plans for children of varying ability levels in the classroom and even aid the teacher with making resources for these lessons. The opportunites are endless. Creating prompts whether through images or text, presentations with slides or even quizzes to assess lessons it is a tool that I will definitely incorporate into my lessons and planning as a teacher going forward.

This could be used in tangent with Diffit, creating differentiated resources for the classroom for all manner of lessons and topics.

AI for teachers going forward is hugely beneficial for future teaching, learning and assessment. Assessment with quizzes created by tools such as Magic School, teaching with tools such as Diffit and helping students learn with tools within Microsoft Word like Immersive Reader. These can all aid teachers and students in their own way going forward.

I have spent the last 4 years teaching in the UAE where each student brought their own device to school everyday. Lessons were generally based around these devices with textbooks/copybooks being at a minimum. Obviously with it being in the UAE there were all manner of language difficulties, with some students being very strong in English and others struggling. Immersive Reader would be a very beneficial and useful way lf combatting this, providing students with the aid and scaffolding needed in order for them to complete their tasks and make them more accessible.

Obviously in Irish classrooms this is the same. Students have many different levels in subjects, English included and Immersive Reader could help here too. However one challenge I could see would be the lack off access to devices for the students to use the tools. Obviously most students would have access at home but in previous schools I have worked in most classes have perhaps one hour slot per week with chromebooks/iPads etc. Getting time to use these tools efficiently will definitely be something I see as a challenge.

AI has a massive opportunity for teachers in the future. All aspects of our jobs as educators can benefit from the use of AI in the classroom and at home when we are planning for the classroom. AI can be used to help create individualised lesson plans for students when using the correct prompts and data efficiently, preparing tasks that are suitably challenging and engaging to students at the same time.

It can also be used to help assess students in the classroom, giving quick and effective feedback to students in a matter of seconds which isn’t always possible in a modern day classroom when teachers always have a million things to do!

Websites such as Brisk provide all manner of tools which I have been using for a while now. It can help to create Powerpoints on topics, create quizzes and lesson plans giving step by step details on how to progress through these lessons. With the help of AI tools such as this the classroom is a more diverse and accomodating place for all.
