          Hi Killian,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the first module. The ARC is so important in promoting social licensing of Aquaculture here in Ireland and making it accessible to all! As you said, despite living in an area which is famed for aquaculture many are still unaware of how it works.

You can register for an ARC visit here: https://bim.ie/a-seafood-way-of-life/the-arc/registration-form/

                Hi Kerri,

Great to hear you enjoyed the first module and found it informative. It’s wonderful to hear from people who weren’t familiar with the term “aquaculture” before these lessons. Over the next four modules, you will learn about the cross-curricular links involved in bringing aquaculture into the classroom.

                      Hi Andrea,

It’s great to hear how you plan to incorporate the module’s learnings into your classroom teachings. Examining nutritional labels and creating balanced meal plans is a great place to start. The next lesson will go into even more detail on sustainability and the importance of making sustainable choices.

                        Hi Tommy,

It’s wonderful to hear about the ways you are integrating sustainability into your classroom. Connecting these concepts to your local area makes them even more relatable for the students.

I am not familiar with the Tralee Bay Wetlands project, but I will make sure to look it up. It sounds like a very interesting initiative.

                            Hi David,

Great to hear you enjoyed the ‘Nutrition of Seafood’ lesson! It’s definitely a topic that can be easily integrated into lessons on healthy eating.

In our experience, aquaculture farmers are usually very willing to visit schools and talk about their experiences on the farm, whether they are farming oysters, mussels, or salmon. They often bring equipment or fresh seafood for a show-and-tell, which is always a hit with the students.

                              Hi Niamh,

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the lesson. Showing how aquaculture supports communities is a big part of our workshops, as it shows how everything is connected. We use a puzzle activity to explain this, but you can also use the videos on our website to get the message across.

                                Hi David,

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the first module of the course. It’s always exciting to learn something new and expand our knowledge of the incredible things happening in the sea. This is especially true in Ireland, where so many of us live just a short distance from the coast. Hopefully, you can incorporate the videos into your own classroom and use them as a resource to teach about aquaculture.

                                  Hi Mary,

Great feedback. Bringing in a guest speaker would be an excellent idea. We’ve seen this work very well in the past, with many aquaculture farmers being eager to give short presentations about their work. They often bring in equipment or seafood from their farms for a show and tell, which the students always love.
