Hi Eimear,
Bringing in a dietitian and inviting families in would be a brilliant initiative.
Hi Grainne,
These are all brilliant initiatives! I especially love the energy free 15!!
Hi Eimear,
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Module 1: Introduction to Aquaculture. As you move forward in the course, you’ll explore topics like sustainability, geography, and nutrition. We hope these lessons will give you the knowledge and tools to teach aquaculture to your own students in the future.
Hi Kieran,
Thanks for the great feedback on Module 4- Nutrition of Seafood. I love the ideas you have come up with for the lesson plan, very engaging and sounds like a lot of fun!
Hi Rachel,
Thank you for the great feedback! I hope you can incorporate map reading into your teaching as well. We use it as an activity on board the ARC, and it always proves to be popular because it’s both practical and engaging.
Hi Diarmuid,
Thanks for the great feedback on this lesson. I love the idea of studying the food pyramid and making it into a practical lesson tying in lots of different curricular strands as you mentioned.
Hi Pauline,
Great feedback here. We give a short introduction to the UN Sustainable development goals onboard the ARC to in our lesson on sustainability. It is great to see young people taking an interest in the topic and coming up with small changes they can make to be more sustainable in their everyday life.
Good luck this year with your 5th class group!
Hi Nicola,
These are all brilliant ideas of how to put a practical spin on the learnings of this module. I especially like the idea of designing posters and packaging for seafood labels!
Hi Diarmuid,
I am so happy to hear you are enjoying the first module-Introduction to Aquaculture.
Our goal in creating the content was to ensure it was engaging and easily integrated into new lessons that teachers could bring into their own classroom.
If you would like to register your school for an ARC visit please visit the BIM website here: https://bim.ie/a-seafood-way-of-life/the-arc/registration-form/
Hi Kieran,
I’m delighted to hear you enjoyed the first module. Thank you for the lovely feedback on the webinar. We use the webinar as an introduction for schools we have not been able to visit yet.
Our goal in creating the content was to ensure it was engaging and easily integrated into new lessons that teachers could bring into their own classroom.
You can register for an ARC visit with the link below and if we get a chance to visit your school we might even get you to give a talk about your own experience on an Oyster farm!!
Hi Roisin,
I am happy to hear you enjoyed Module 1: Introduction to Aquaculture, and thanks for the great feedback on the ARC.
The ARC is an excellent mobile classroom and has received hugely positive feedback in schools all over Ireland.

Hi Susan,
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Module 2: Where Do We Farm. Great work here in detailing all the benefits of Aquaculture in coastal areas here in Ireland.
Hi Aideen,
So happy to hear you enjoyed Module 4. I think there is so much information out there now on nutrition and labeling foods as ‘bad’ or ‘good’ so we really wanted to take it back to the basics for this lesson.
We also love the term seafood as ‘Brainfood’ and when teaching on the ARC we introduce the story of the salmon of knowledge as an example of salmon being brainfood.
Hi Niamh,
I love this idea of meeting on a Sunday morning to collect rubbish, very simple but effective. We do the same here in Donegal meeting up for beach cleans at the weekend!
Congratulations on the green flag, a lot of work from teachers and students, a great achievement.
Hi Laura,
Glad to hear you are enjoying the course so far and plan to incorporate some of the resources into your lessons in September.
What we have tried to show throughout the course is that the topic of Aquaculture fits into so many of the curricular strands. I would agree that the first lessons on the introduction to Aquaculture is a great starting point and will hopefully spark interest in your students!
