      I think the idea of bringing a class to your local community garden is a super idea!

        Living in Malahide, I’ve seen more and more focus on sustainability over the past few years. The community really takes pride in keeping the area clean and green. Places like Malahide Castle grounds and the coastal paths are great examples of how we look after our local environment. There are plenty of recycling points around town, and groups like the local Tidy Towns do amazing work with beach cleanups, planting projects, and raising awareness about looking after nature.

        In school, I would use these local efforts to get pupils thinking about what sustainability means and how they can get involved. We could go on walks to explore biodiversity in the area or do class projects on recycling at home. Pupils could even come up with their own ideas to help the environment in Malahide. By connecting learning to what they see every day, I think they’ll feel more motivated to make a difference.

          I love the supermarket scavenger hunt idea – I think this would make learning fun and exciting and very engaging for students!

            Seafood is one of the most nutritious types of food we can eat. It is high in protein which helps with growth and repair of the body and it contains healthy fats like omega 3 which are really good for our hearts and brains. Fish like salmon and mackerel are especially good for this. Seafood also gives us important vitamins and minerals like vitamin D and iodine which help our bones and our metabolism.
            Learning about this in the classroom helps students understand why it is important to eat a variety of foods and where their food comes from. It links well with the Social Personal and Health Education curriculum and also with Science when looking at living things and the food pyramid. Teachers can use group discussions tasting sessions or even simple cooking demos to make it more real and fun. This knowledge can help children make better food choices now and in the future

              A totally agree that the hands on materials such as quizzes and videos and virtual tours would make it far more engaging for the children and a better quality of learning would take place!

                Using the online lessons and resources developed for the ARC I now have a much stronger understanding of how STEM can be taught in a more hands on and engaging way at primary level. The ARC materials are child friendly well structured and based on real life situations that help to spark curiosity and encourage active learning. They support the STEM Education Policy Statement by promoting problem solving creativity and critical thinking from an early age. I can see these resources helping both pupils and teachers feel more confident when exploring STEM in the classroom. One lesson I found particularly useful was based on sustainable aquaculture. For a primary class this could become a creative project where pupils learn about where fish come from how fish farms work and why sustainability matters. They could design their own fish farms using recycled materials which would link Science Geography and Maths while also building teamwork and communication skills. On a whole school level I think the ARC resources could really support the SSE process especially if a school is focusing on learner engagement or improving teaching and learning. These lessons could be used for school wide projects or STEM weeks helping to make STEM part of the everyday learning experience for all pupils.

                  I completely agree with what you wrote and I think this course really helped me understand how important aquaculture is for more than just producing food. It plays a big role in supporting rural and coastal communities in Ireland, especially in places where there are not many other job options. It can bring steady employment, both directly on the farms and through things like transport and local services, which helps keep these areas alive.

                    Aquaculture farms in Ireland are really important, especially for small coastal communities. These farms are usually set up in bays and along the coast where the water is clean and calm, which is perfect for growing things like mussels and salmon. In places where there are not many jobs or industries, aquaculture gives people work and helps stop young people from moving away to cities.

                    It is not just about farming fish either. These farms help local businesses too. For example, people need boats, fuel, tools and even places to stay if they are working in the area. That means more money is spent in the community which is good for everyone.

                    I also think it is great that aquaculture is a more sustainable way of producing food compared to overfishing. If it is done properly and does not harm the environment, it can really help Irish coastal towns survive and grow now and in the future.

                      I completely agree , learning about aquaculture is a great way to get kids interested in nature and science. It’s interactive, teaches them where food comes from, and helps them understand why protecting oceans matters. On top of that, it’s a fun way to combine learning with caring for the environment!

                        After looking at the tools and ideas in Module 1, I can really see how teaching aquaculture and Social License could work well in a primary classroom. These topics link in nicely with subjects like SESE and SPHE and give children the chance to learn about real life issues in a fun and interesting way.
                        Using things like videos, maps, games and role play, pupils can learn how fish farming works and how it affects people, the environment and local communities. They can take on the roles of fishermen/women scientists or local families and start to see different points of view. This helps them think about fairness, looking after nature and how people make decisions together.
                        It also gives children the chance to work in groups, ask questions and share ideas. Most of all, it helps them become more aware of the world around them and shows them how their choices can make a difference.
