I have chosen Collaborative Learning as a key 21st century skill in the classroom. This is a skill that set students up and prepare them for the real world. It allows them to see that everyone has opinions and they are not all the same, it teaches them the skills from a young age to communicate and take others opinions into consideration when making decisions and coming to agreement on a topic. It is an excellent way for students to learn from each other and engage in conversations interactively. Collaborative Learning boosts children self esteem and they gain more confidence as some may be stronger on certain topics than others and it gives them to share their knowledge and then vice versa.

The aim of my SWAY presentation was to outline the ways in which collaborative learning can be undertaken in the classroom and the ways in which it is key to learning in the 21st century.

Digital Technology provides teachers with with the tools and resources both in and out of the classroom to enhance student learning in many ways. Digital Technology creates a collaborative student learning environment in creating new knowledge, reflecting on what they are learning/have learnt, and to work together to achieve deeper understanding of course topics. This was my first year using Google Chromebooks with my class and I found them invaluable, the resources available and the way children worked independently and collaboratively really enhanced their learning. Since Remote Learning I have found myself using a lot more Digital Technology in the class and I have found the children enjoy it a lot more in comparison to the traditional teaching.

School Self Evaluation comes down to the individual school taking ownership of their own development and improvement. The 6 steps outlined are easy to follow and an excellent guide for schools. They allow a school to asses their strengths and weaknesses and collaboratively work together to achieve the best outcome over time.

From studying One Note and One Note Learning tools in this module it is clear to see they it can be used very effectively in the classroom. I was pleasantly surprised to see the wide range of resources and tools One Notes offers. I think it will be very effective for class projects, particularly for the Senior Classes. The tool to insert clips and videos from various websites is excellent and I also think sharing the Notepad between others is very effective and will be great for project work. I really liked the tool that allows you to write and label the images on the notepad, this is great for solving Maths problems or labeling diagrams.

I look forward to using this in my classroom in the future.

The Immersive Reader is an excellent tool that will assist children particularly SEN as it makes the text , but also make the text more exciting to look at and engage in for other learners. It really brings the text to life and attends to the various needs of all children.

            Hi All,

I have used PowerPoint Recording and Screen Recordings while carrying out remote learning, this was very beneficial to the children and parents as it explained the lesson topics in a way the children were used to hearing it. I thought it was very useful particularly for Gaeilge and Maths.

I have no previous experience of Microsoft Teams but from studying and learning about it in this module I can see ways I can incorporate it into both the classroom and the teaching department. The layout is quite similar to Google Classroom what I currently use but I like the assignment section to give feedback and it is very easy to access and use. I think this tool could also be used for Department such as Mainstream class teachers for one year group could share resources and ideas. This will only work if all teachers are willing to get involved and work together to get the full benefit of it.

              Hi All,

I have found this module very interesting and extremely beneficial for my teaching in the classroom. I am always looking for new and innovative ways for the children to learn, especially through interactive and IT based resources as we have access to Google Chromebooks in my school and the pupils love using them. This is my first time to use SWAY and I am very impressed with it. It is very simple and easy to use. I think it would be very beneficial for children to create their own picture stories and share them with their classmates. I think the option to insert pictures and videos is integral as it attends to the needs of all learners and makes it more interesting for the child.

I really like the idea of Microsoft Forms, as I think this would be great for the teacher to create quizzes based on the topic they are learning about but also for the children to create their own quizzes and for their classmates to complete them in turn. They could complete them individually on the Chromebooks or together as a class. I use Google Classroom for children to upload projects and then share with the class. I think Forms is excellent for quizzes as I currently use Kahoot and sometimes find it can not suit all children’s abilities with the time limit and the layout in general. I think Forms will be much more academically beneficial for their future learning.

Looking forward to using these tools in my classroom in the future.
