Yes Fiona, a tool like Microsoft Reading Coach for Irish would be fantastic! Hopefully in the next year or two someone will create a similar tool as Gaeilge!

The first example of a tool identified in Module 3 is Magic School. I have had some experience in using this AI resource before. I used it to create a quiz for World Book Day for the Infant Classes. I was able to tailor it to also be a form of assessment. The most productive and time saving feature of using Magic School to create the quiz was that I was able to differentiate the quiz by including emoji’s for struggling readers. Another fantastic feature within Magic School is that I was able to feed it some of my report comments for specific children and it produced a selection of tasks for parents to do at home with their child over the summer. I used to spend hours sourcing activities and trying to think of suitable games, but Magic School gave me several pages of suggestions with links in seconds. This can impact my future teaching by saving time when producing activities for parents to be more involved in their child’s education.
The second example of a tool in Module 3 is DiffIt for Teachers. I have not previously used this AI tool. It will impact my future learning for pupils by allowing me to differentiate content up and down to suit the needs of my pupils. I have played around with it and can see how useful it will be for creating content based around the topics we are learning about in SESE especially.

There was a lot of content and examples from around the world of how AI can transform teaching and learning experiences in this module. I enjoyed the video examples. I believe AI will be useful and beneficial for creating alternative active hands-on tasks and games in Maths and Language lessons.
In language lessons I can see how the ‘immersive reader’ will be extremely useful and supportive for children with dyslexia. I have never used it before but it will be something I can discuss using in collaboration with the Special Education Teacher assigned to my class.
Seeing how the different countries have been utilising AI in educational settings showed me the importance of developing a whole school approach and policy collaboratively with staff. This would be a good opportunity for any members of staff interested in AI to show and develop their leadership skills within a school setting. It’s good to see the Department has some documents already to help guide teachers.

I too will be sharing the use of the Immersive Reader with the SET assigned to my class.

You’re right Thomas, teachers will need ongoing professional development to guide us through the many useful areas of AI. Schools will also need to create policies and guidance documents for all their staff on the use of AI. A lot of extra work… but maybe AI will do it for us? Haha!

The potential for classroom use of AI tools is absolutely immense and very overwhelming for educators who do not feel competent with using technology in their teaching. This module was very clear in giving a concise history and understanding of the emergence and recent rapid development of Artificial Intelligence.
As educators, I believe we have a responsibility and duty to upskill and continuously move with new, innovative ways of educating our classes. The initial reaction to AI in education from colleagues in my experience has been apprehensive and almost negative because there is a notion that it’s an easy way to ‘cheat’ written tasks.
I know that AI will impact my future planning and preparation in a productive and time-saving way. Earlier this year I was asked to create a very easy World Book Day quiz for the Infant Classes as most quizzes available online were too difficult. I used Magic School AI (https://app.magicschool.ai/tools) to create a 10 question multiple-choice quiz with pictures and emojis to make it easier for the Infant children. It took about 3 minutes as I tailored it with additional prompts.
I’m looking forward to this course teaching me new ways of using AI to create more tailored, time saving activities and resources.
