In this lesson, I look at the issue of Climate Change through poetry. I taught this lesson, so I have had real face time with the children on this topic. I find that Google Slides is a very easy way to create a presentation on a topic that can engage children. In the lesson, the children read poems, wrote their own and learned about climate change. Looking at my slides, I would make them more interactive by having a video and doing a Google Forms quiz at the end.
Google groups could help teachers practice tips and reminders about following up on planning, preparation and forms. It would be handy way to ask about a topic if you were unsure of. Long-term and short terms plans can be shared with other teachers via the groups instead of sending the documents to other teachers individually. Also, using Google Docs means that a teacher does not have to download and save the documents but instead edit them for their own use online, and it would be automatically saved. Teachers should create their own copy so that they are not editing another teacher’s plans.
Meets could be a good way to meet up if schools do not want to do face-to-face meetings as a staff meetings. Also, Google Meets would be a handy way to meet parents where those parents may be at work. It can be a challenge to meet parents face to face, so parent-teacher meetings could be done online via Google Meets. Teachers may need to meet parents one on one for important meetings where discipline is an issue or where that child has special needs.

Great quiz and interesting questions. I like the idea of gentle guidance. For shy children maybe a written form of feedback would work better than the teacher telling them in front of the whole class.

I am using my own personal Google account, so I am not sure if the sharing/making available settings worked.
I created a quiz for 3rd class at the start of the year to identify what areas in maths a 3rd class might need help in. Often children at that age know which areas they are strong in and which areas they are weak in. I would explain what each area means and show them some samples so that they are clear.
I would use this pre-assessment tool to help guide me to watch out for areas of difficulty. Children coming from 2nd class sometimes don’t get regrouping or carry over in maths. This may need to be revised again.
I find that Google Forms is a very easy way of gathering data and of doing quick quizzes and tests. The children would be able to see their own answers individually, and this could help them revise a subject. As this is an ICT task it would not come across as a ‘test’ to the children but a fun online thing. This would remove the ‘exam’ pressure from the task.
I reviewed the paper “Redesigning Education: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century”. They mention the following skills that are needed for 21st-century learning. Active engagement from the pupils, Self-directed learning,
Effective relationships between the students and the teachers, Differentiated instruction, Reflective practice settings, Integrating feedback from students and the teacher. The skill that I choose is reflective practice. This is where the students reflect on what they have learned when they have completed a task. In school, we are so busy moving on to the next thing that we rarely take time out to reflect on what we do. In any lesson, students are likely to find some aspect of a lesson difficult. As a teacher, I give students project work to complete. When the students have completed the project, they would reflect on what part of that project did they find challenging and what project did they find easy. Students could share this in the class. The student would have to be taught how to effectively use the reflection process so that it is not another thing to do and run through.
The app I would use for students to complete this is Google Forms. The students would answer a series of simple questions. We could do this about once every two weeks to ensure they are reflecting and learning from their reflections.

Google Classroom is a very effective tool for teachers to use. It is easy to follow, and the layout of the tools is natural and clear. I can see how students would enjoy using Google Classroom. I like the fact that Google Meets only needs one link to be sent out and that you don’t need to keep sharing the link. I like the way the assignments can be shared online via the Classroom. It is much easier than Seesaw, which is more difficult to use.
I can easily share Youtube videos and use them to educate children and teach them about a topic. I like the way the children can then comment and interact with each other online. It is really good that the teacher can change the children’s settings where they may be abusive or make inappropriate comments.
All in all, this is a very good source to make life easier for teachers.
I would use digital technology as a way for the children to present information about themselves. Children love to talk about themselves and are passionate about bringing their own interests into the classroom. This would make digital technology real to the children. Children often know more about technology than adults do, so for me, as a teacher, they would be teaching me about it.
In terms of School Self Evaluation, the children in the school would need to improve their digital literacy, and the best way to do this is to embed the practice of using digital resources in the school. The school could use the steps outlined in the SSE process to identify this need, gather evidence about it, and see what the children already know and what gaps there are in this area. We could use Google Forms to help us to do this.
I would use Google Slides as a resource for the children to make a presentation about themselves at the start of the year. They would need to be taught it by me, the teacher, and this would localise it for the classroom. I would get the help of children to demonstrate the process as well. Using Google Images, they could use images from the web to enhance their presentations.
