      Hi everyone,
One inquiry-based activity I would use with a 1st class is “What would happen if we lived on the Moon?” I would begin by showing the children a picture of the Moon and asking them what they notice. They would then work in small groups to think about questions such as: Could we breathe there? What would we wear? How would we eat, sleep or play?
The children would share their ideas before we investigated the answers together using books, short videos and simple facts about the Moon. They could then design and draw their own Moon house, spacesuit or Moon playground, explaining why they included certain features.
I think this activity would work really well with younger children because it encourages imagination while also developing their questioning and thinking skills. Rather than giving children all the answers, they have the opportunity to explore, make predictions and discover new information for themselves. It also links science with art, oral language and writing, making it an engaging cross-curricular activity. I believe children are more likely to remember what they have learned when they have explored a question that sparks their curiosity and creativity. I feel it might be a nice introductory activity to exploring more about space.
Space Fact; As I said above its difficult to choose favorite Space fact but in addition to rocket launch facts I believe there could be as many as 10 billion Earth-like planets in the Milky Way!

Good morning. My name is Bernie Mc Goldrick and I will be teaching 1st class next year. I have always had an interest and fascination with space, especially the night sky. There are so many interesting facts about space , its difficult to choose one. But from a personal point of view I took my son to NASA in Cape Canerval in Florida when he was 9. A family member worked there. Part of his job was the retrival of rocket parts after lift…fascinating to say the lease!
