Module three how light pollution has impacted the local area

Light pollution is becoming a bigger problem in recent years especially in urban areas. I live in a rural community and I have noticed an increase in night time lighting in recent years . This all has a negative impact on the environment and sleep patterns .
To engage class in this lesson I would firstly look again at stellarium and look at skies in local areas . We could then compare this to visible views at night . They could do this at home with their parents . It would lead to interesting discussions in the classroom about light pollution and the affect it is having on night sky . I would encourage to look up the dark skies parks .
we could then look at different ways to reduce light pollution looking at shielding lights .
we could discuss Milky Way and also the northern lights discussing how light pollution could affect their visibility .
We could look at the global problem of light pollution and how it is affecting areas such as biodiversity .
the tools like dark sky parks and stellarium would be useful in this lesson .
