How you would engage your learners to explore biodiversity in your local area and
the possible impacts of light pollution on local biodiversity.

this would involve a series of lessons . Firstly I would introduce the word biodiversity and discuss what this means . I would use the short videos on this from module four as they explain clearly the meaning of biodiversity . We are lucky in our school to have a large field area out the back which means we could go on walks to observe insects trees in the area . We also have a bug hotel in the school garden . We could discuss ways we could improve biodiversity in our school perhaps leaving an area in the field to grow in wild garden to encourage more butterflies birds and bees to come to that area . We have used heritage in schools programme and got excellent speakers out to school to speak about biodiversity and bees .
we could do class group projects on biodiversity in our local area.

looking at impacts of light pollution we could have class discussion on light pollution and use stellarium to observe local night skies . We could pick one or two nocturnal animals eg bat or moth and look at affects of light pollution. We could look at the little things we can do to help . For example not having outside lights on at night or shielding lamps . We could write to the local county council about lighting .
We could create posters to encourage people to switch off lights for wildlife and encourage biodiversity
