I found using Microsoft Copilot to be a positive experience. I asked it to help me create a social story and a simple transition plan for pupils returning to learning following a hospital admission. It gave me a good starting point, but I still needed to adapt the language and activities to suit the individual needs of each pupil. In a hospital school, where pupils’ needs can change quickly, that flexibility is really important.
One of the biggest benefits of AI is the time it can save in creating first drafts of resources and suggesting differentiated activities. A limitation is that it doesn’t know the context of the individual child, so everything still needs to be reviewed carefully using professional judgement.
To ensure pupils remain the ones doing the thinking, I see AI as a planning tool for teachers rather than something pupils rely on for answers. The learning still comes from discussion, questioning and reflection. I can also see potential for Copilot in School Self-Evaluation by helping to summarise feedback, draft action plans and reduce some of the administrative workload, leaving more time to focus on teaching and supporting pupils.
