Getting Started – Computer Basics for Teachers

success_key.jpg‘Technology in education is becoming more of a feature in our schools. Yet, for many teachers, getting started with technology is a daunting task. This course is designed to help the total beginner to get up and running with a computer and provide them with basic digital skills, take their first steps on the Internet and start using email.’

1. How to start the computer and understand the desktop

2. Common Software Programmes and how to organise and arrange files

3. Introduction to the World Wide Web

4. Using web-based email services

5. How to stay safe online

Technical Requirements

All our courses require broadband Internet access (Min of 1mb recommended) and participants need to be familiar with using the internet, downloading and installing software.

Course Objectives

Teachers with little or no prior knowledge will learn how to start using a computer and be confident in using the basic function of the computer including the desktop, folders and files, getting on to the Internet and using email.

Expected Outcomes

Participants will confidently be able to switch on the computer, carry out basic functions, browse the Internet and use a web based email. They will be enabled to begin integrating ICT to encourage the use of and strategies for reading comprehension and critically evaluating information from the Internet. They will understand how developing their own ICT practice can have an impact at school level through active participation in the school’s e-learning planning process.

Course Duration

Delivered online, this course can be taken anytime, anywhere between July 2nd and August 24th 2018. Participants will be encouraged to engage meaningfully with course content for approximately 20 hours. Whilst engagement with the course content will be primarily judged on the quality of their contributions, a log of their time spent working on the course will be kept.
